Chiral auxiliaries and asymmetric catalysis are the workhorses of enantioselective transformations, but they still remain limited in terms of either efficiency or generality. Herein, we present an alternative strategy for controlling the stereoselectivity ...

Herein we report a platinum-catalyzed isomerization of cyclopropenes to 1,3-dienes. Diverse dienylated alcohols were obtained in 42-98 % yield. The synthetic potential of the products was demonstrated by their use in Diels-Alder cycloadditions with various ...

Alkynes and nitriles are important functional groups that serve as versatile building blocks in organic synthesis and find applications in material and medicinal sciences. A convenient and straightforward access to both classes of compounds under mild cond ...

The efficient azidation of beta-keto esters and silyl enol ethers using a benziodoxole-derived azide transfer reagent is reported. The azidation of cyclic beta-keto esters could be achieved in up to quantitative yields in the absence of any catalyst. In th ...

Azepanes are important seven-membered heterocycles, which are present in numerous natural and synthetic compounds. However, the development of convergent synthetic methods to access them remains challenging. Herein, we report the Lewis acid catalyzed (4+3) ...

In the last decades, hypervalent iodine reagents have raised from chemical curiosities to mainstream reagents in organic synthesis. The use of benziodoxole-derived reagents has been especially successful in oxidation methods, whereas non-cyclic iodinanes h ...

The intramolecular [4+2] cycloaddition between arenes and allenes first reported by Himbert gives rapid access to rigid polycyclic scaffolds. Herein, we report a one‐pot oxyalkynylation/cycloaddition reaction proceeding under mild conditions (23–90 °C) and ...

In this issue of Chem, Powers and co-workers demonstrate that iodanyl radicals are the key oxidants and chain carriers in a proposed open-shell mechanism for the aerobic synthesis of hypervalent iodine compounds. ...

This review presents an account of the palladium-catalyzed functionalizations of alkenes and alkynes developed at the Laboratory of Catalysis and Organic Synthesis (LCSO). Starting from the intramolecular oxy- and aminoalkynylation of alkenes, tethered met ...

We report the diastereoselective and enantioselective synthesis of thio-substituted cyclobutanes via a sulfa-Michael addition using cyclobutenes. In the presence of DBU, various thio-cyclobutane esters and amides were obtained in up to quantitative yield a ...

The selective functionalization of peptides containing only natural amino acids is important for the modification of biomolecules. In particular, the installation of an alkyne as a useful handle for bioconjugation is highly attractive, but the use of a car ...

Efficient methods for the convergent synthesis of (poly) cyclic scaffolds are urgently needed in synthetic and medicinal chemistry. Herein, we describe new annulation reactions of thioalkynes with phthalimide-substituted donor-acceptor cyclopropanes, which ...

Although alkynes are one of the smallest functional groups, they are among the most versatile building blocks for organic chemistry, with applications ranging from biochemistry to material sciences. Alkynylation reactions have traditionally relied on the u ...

A versatile synthesis of azidolactones through azidation and cyclization of carboxylic acids onto alkenes has been developed. Based on either photoredox or palladium catalysis, (1,1) and (1,2) azido lactones can be selectively synthesized. The choice of ca ...

The alkynylation of radical intermediates has been known since a long time, but had not been broadly applied in synthetic chemistry, in contrast to the alkynylation of either electrophiles or nucleophiles. In the last decade however, it has been intensivel ...

A new method for the cyanation of thiols and disulfides using cyanobenziodoxol(on)e hypervalent iodine reagents is described. Both aliphatic and aromatic thiocyanates can be accessed in good yields in a few minutes at room temperature starting from a broad ...
