A model for predicting the buckling and wrinkling behavior of glass-fiber-reinforced polymer (GFRP) plates and sandwich panels subjected to in-plane biaxial compression-tension loading is presented in this paper. In-plane biaxial compression-tension loadin ...

The 2D delamination behavior of composite laminates under quasi-static out-of-plane opening loading has been experimentally investigated. A circular embedded pre-crack was introduced in the center and at the midplane of the laminates. To investigate the ef ...

The potential effects of high-performance fiber-reinforced polymer thermal breaks for balcony connections on the thermal losses and heating needs of a typical residential building in Switzerland were investigated. In an optimized form, these new thermal br ...

A series of fatigue experiments was performed in order to investigate the effect of the R-ratio on the fatigue/fracture behavior of adhesively-bonded pultruded GFRP double cantilever beam joints. Constant amplitude fatigue experiments were carried out unde ...

A quasi-static progressive damage model for prediction of the fracture behaviour and strength of adhesively bonded fibre-reinforced polymer joints is introduced in this paper. The model is based on the development of a mixed-mode failure criterion as a fun ...

After 17 and 15years of use, respectively, a detailed inspection of a pedestrian bridge and a 5-story building structure composed of partly adhesively bonded pultruded glass fiber-reinforced polymer (GFRP) profiles was conducted accompanied by full-scale s ...

The feasibility of encapsulating solar cells into the glass fiber-reinforced polymer (GFRP) skins of load-bearing and thermally insulating sandwich elements with foam cores has been evaluated. Exposure of the encapsulated cells to artificial sunlight led t ...

This paper demonstrates how the translucency of glass fiber-reinforced polymer (GFRP) laminates allows the derivation of their mechanical properties through optical measurements. Spectrophotometric, goniophotometric and tensile experiments were performed o ...

Glass-fiber-reinforced polymer (GFRP) cell-core sandwiches are composed of outer GFRP face sheets, a foam core, and a grid of GFRP webs integrated into the core to reinforce the shear load capacity. One of the critical failure modes of cell-core sandwich s ...

Adhesively-bonded joints, including double- and stepped- lap joints (DLJs and SLJs), were experimentally investigated under cyclic tensile loading. The joints were composed of pultruded GFRP laminates and epoxy adhesive. A critical stiffness was found for ...

The effects of the loading type, i.e. tension or compression, and displacement rate on the Poisson ratio of a non-linear viscoelastic ductile structural adhesive have been investigated using digital image correlation-based strain fields. The results showed ...

The diffuse light transmittance of hand lay-up glass fiber-reinforced polymer (GFRP) laminates was investigated. Spectrophotometric experiments were performed on unidirectional and cross-ply glass fiber-reinforced polymer specimens with fiber volume fracti ...

Adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) has been successfully used for the modelling of fatigue behaviour of a multidirectional composite laminate. The evaluation of the neuro-fuzzy model has been performed using a data base containing 257 valid fati ...

The partitioning of the total strain energy release rate, G(tot), into the Mode I, G(I), and Mode II, G(II), components is challenging, especially in asymmetric cracks. Although many researchers have studied the fracture behavior of composite materials und ...

The aim of this work is the investigation of mesoscale/local variability in mechanical properties of clear timber in the radial direction. Clear Norway spruce wood, Picea abies, was used for cutting specimens of different lengths with a small cross-section ...

An investigation of the load-transfer mechanism in carbon fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) ground anchors with multi-strap ends was conducted based on experimental and numerical studies of one- and two-strap anchors. Differences in the strap geometry, i.e. ...
