Expertise Tribology, corrosion, tribocorrosion, surface analysis, electrochemistry Anna Igual Munoz is senior scientist at EPFL since 2022. She has a master degree in Industrial engineering (specialised in chemical engineering) and a PhD in Electrochemical corrosion (2001) from UPV. She did a Postdoctoral research at the University of Virginia (USA) in 2002 in the field of electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and local electrochemical techniques. She was Professor at the Technical University of Valencia (UPV, Spain) and created and leaded the Tribocorrosion research Group till 2016. She was invited professor at EPFL in 2012. Her scientific interests are mainly focused in the understanding the interactions (chemical, mechanical and biological) between materials and surfaces (mainly metals and oxides) with the environment. Mainly in the fields of corrosion, tribology and new functional coatings.Fields of expertise Corrosion Tribocorrosion Electrochemistry Teaching & PhD PhD Students Quentin Gérard Jean-Charles Ursule Past EPFL PhD Students as codirector Marian Nida Sagarino Lumongsod-Thompson Courses CCMX Tribology and Surfaces Interactions MSE-667 This course is intended to give to the participants (graduates, researchers and industrial professionals) a solid background in tribology and surface interactions. It covers the fundamentals concepts of tribology including surfaces, contact mechanics, friction, lubrication and wear. Characterization of Materials 2025 MSE-716 This course introduces materials characterization techniques used by scientists and engineers. Lectures cover basic theory, applications, and limitations, while lab sessions offer hands-on experience, providing a well-rounded understanding of each method. Corrosion and protection of metals + Laboratory Work MSE-311 This introductory corrosion course aims at familiarizing the student with the mechanisms of corrosion, with various forms of corrosion and with the principles of protection against corrosion. Surface analysis MSE-351 The course treats the main surface analysis methods for the characterization of surfaces, interfaces and thin films. It discusses how these methods can be applied to gain specific knowledge about structural, chemical and functional properties of surfaces and thin films. Limitation to 18 students! Tribology MSE-485 This introductory course in tribology (science of friction, lubrication and wear) has specific goals : to present the basic principles of tribology, to develop the attitude to analyse tribological and to illustrate correlations between materials and tribological properties.
