A method and device for reducing the computational complexity of a processing algorithm, of a discrete signal, in particular of the spectral estimation and analysis of bio-signals, with minimum or no quality loss, which comprises steps of (a) choosing a do ...

Hypertension is known to affect around one third of adults globally and early diagnosis is essential to reduce the effects of this affliction. Today’s Blood Pressure (BP) monitoring cuffs are obtrusive and in- convenient for performing regular measurements ...

Field-Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs) have become promising mapping fabric for the implementation of System-on-Chip (SoC) platforms, due to their large capacity and their enhanced support for dynamic and partial reconfigurability. Design automation suppor ...

In the last years, the need for enhancing health and preventing problems with remote monitoring is increasing. A non-invasive low-cost technique for processing bio-signals and monitoring vital parameters, at rest and during physical activity, is the use of ...

Three-dimensional integrated circuits (3D-ICs) are a promising approach to address the integration challenges faced by current systems on chips (SoCs). Designing an efficient network on chip (NoC) interconnect for a 3-D SoC that meets not only the applicat ...

To tackle the increasing communication complexity of multi-core systems, scalable Networks on Chips (NoCs) are needed to interconnect the processor, memory and hardware cores of the systems. For the use of NoCs to be feasible in today's industrial designs, ...

As the communication requirements of current and future Multiprocessor Systems on Chips (MPSoCs) continue to increase, scalable communication architectures are needed to support the heavy communication demands of the system. This is reflected in the recent ...

Today, chip multiprocessors (CMPs) that accommodate multiple processor cores on the same chip have become a reality. As the communication complexity of such multicore systems is rapidly increasing, designing an interconnect architecture with predictable be ...

Personal health monitoring systems are emerging as promising solutions to develop ultra-small, portable devices that can continuously monitor and process several vital body parameters. In this work, we present a wearable device for physical and emotional h ...

Background: Cardiac arrhythmias are very common but underdiagnosed due to their transient and asymptomatic nature. An optimization of arrhythmia detection would permit to better treat patients and could substantially reduce morbidity and mortality. The Sma ...

With increasing communication demands of processor and memory cores in Systems on Chips (SoCs), scalable Networks on Chips (NoCs) are needed to interconnect the cores. For the use of NoCs to be feasible in today’s industrial designs, a custom-tailored, app ...

Networks on Chip (NoC) has emerged as the paradigm for designing scalable communication architecture for Systems on Chips (SoCs). Avoiding the conditions that can lead to deadlocks in the network is critical for using NoCs in real designs. Methods that can ...

This paper presents the system-level architecture of novel ultra-low power wireless body sensor nodes (WBSNs) for real-time cardiac monitoring and analysis, and discusses the main design challenges of this new generation of medical devices. In particular, ...

Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) is one of the main under-diagnosed sleep disorder. It is an aggravating factor for several serious cardiovascular diseases, including stroke. There is, however, a lack of medical devices for long-term ambulatory monitoring of ...

With the emergence of wearable and non-intrusive med- ical devices, one major challenge is the real-time analysis of the acquired signals in real-life and ambulatory con- ditions. This paper presents a lightweight algorithm for on-line heart beat classific ...

With technology scaling, the wire delay as a fraction of the total delay is increasing, and the communication architecture is becoming a major bottleneck for system performance in systems on chip (SoCs). A communication-centric design paradigm, networks on ...

With the growing complexity in consumer embedded products, new tendencies forecast heterogeneous Multi-Processor Systems-On-Chip (MPSoCs) consisting of complex integrated components communicating with each other at very high-speed rates. Intercommunication ...

Designing a power-efficient interconnection architec- ture for MultiProcessor Systems-on-Chips (MPSoCs) satisfying the application performance constraints is a nontrivial task. In order to meet the tight time-to-market constraints and to effec- tively hand ...

With technology advances, the number of cores integrated on a chip and their speed of operation is increasing. This, in turn is leading to a significant increase in chip temperature. Temperature gradi- ents and hot-spots not only affect the performance of ...
