We present the results of exploring the capabilities of skinning modifiers to generate high fidelity polygonal surface meshes of neurons from their morphological skeletons that are segmented from optical microscopy slides. Our algorithm is implemented in B ...

Although the diversity of cortical interneuron electrical properties is well recognized, the number of distinct electrical types (e-types) is still a matter of debate. Recently, descriptions of interneuron variability were standardized by multiple laborato ...

At many scales in neuroscience, appropriate mathematical models take the form of complex dynamical systems. Parametrising such models to conform to the multitude of available experimental constraints is a global nonlinear optimisation problem with a comple ...

A part of large-scale future supercomputing architectures will rely on a combination of IBM POWER9 and Nvidia GPU processors. In order to anticipate software design, implementation and optimization decisions and optimally prepare scientific applications ta ...

Scientists in many disciplines use spatial mesh models to study physical phenomena. Simulating natural phenomena by changing meshes over time helps to understand and predict future behavior of the phenomena. The higher the precision of the mesh models, the ...

Dental caries is the most prevalent chronic condition worldwide. Early detection can significantly improve treatment outcomes and reduce the need for invasive procedures. Recently, near-infrared transillumination (TI) imaging has been shown to be effective ...

We present a physically-based computational model of the light sheet fluorescence microscope (LSFM). Based on Monte Carlo ray tracing and geometric optics, our method simulates the operational aspects and image formation process of the LSFM. This simulated ...

Neuron models, in particular conductance-based compartmental models, often have numerous parameters that cannot be directly determined experimentally and must be constrained by an optimization procedure. A common practice in evaluating the utility of such ...

Neuroscientists increasingly use computational tools to build and simulate models of the brain. The amounts of data involved in these simulations are immense and the importance of their efficient management is primordial. One particular problem in analyzin ...

The increasing complexity and heterogeneity of extreme scale systems makes the optimization of large scale scientific applications particularly challenging. Efficiently leveraging these complex systems requires a great deal of technical expertise and a con ...

Important progress in computational sciences has been made possible recently thanks to the increasing computing power of high performance systems. Following this trend, larger scientific studies, like brain tissue simulations, will continue to grow in the ...

Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on a computer storage medium, for reconstructing and simulating neocortical microcircuitry. In one aspect, a method includes providing a model of neural tissue, the model including differ ...
