Technology scaling imposes an ever increasing temperature stress on digital circuit design due to transistor density, especially on highly integrated systems, such as Multi- Processor Systems-on-Chip (MPSoCs). Therefore, temperature-aware design is mandato ...

The HyperDimensional Computing (HDC) Machine Learning (ML) paradigm is highly interesting for applications involving continuous, semi-supervised learning for long-term monitoring. However, its accuracy is not yet on par with other ML approaches, necessitat ...

The automatic generation of hardware implementations for a given algorithm is generally a difficult task, especially when data dependencies span across multiple iterations such as in iterative stencil loops (ISLs). In this paper, we introduce an automatic ...

The integration of wearable devices in humans' daily lives has grown significantly in recent years and still continues to affect different aspects of high-quality life. Thus, ensuring the reliability of the decisions becomes essential in biomedical applica ...

Liquid cooling using interlayer microchannels has appeared as a viable and scalable packaging technology for 3-D multiprocessor system-on-chips (MPSoCs). Microchannel-based liquid cooling, however, can substantially increase the on-chip thermal gradients, ...

Current general-purpose memory allocators do not provide sufficient speed or flexibility for modern highperformance applications. To optimize metrics like performance, memory usage and energy consumption, software engineers often write custom allocators fr ...

We consider the problem of adjusting speeds of multiple computer processors, sharing the same thermal environment, such as a chip or multichip package. We assume that the speed of each processor (and associated variables such as power supply voltage) can b ...

Cloud computing has been proposed as a new paradigm to deliver services over the internet. The proliferation of cloud services and increasing users’ demands for computing resources have led to the appearance of geo-distributed data centers (DCs). These DCs ...

The design of 3-dimensional integrated circuits requires new specialized tools, methods and flows. Whereas some tools are on the market and some design flows for standard ICs are extended to handle die stacking and through-silicon vias, much R&D has still ...

We consider the problem of energy-efficient scheduling for slice-parallel video decoders on multicore systems with Dynamic Voltage Frequency Scaling (DVFS) enabled processors. We rigorously formulate the problem as a Markov decision process (MDP), which si ...

The increasing power density in modern high-performance multi-processor system-on-chip (MPSoC) is fueling a revolution in thermal management. On the one hand, thermal phenomena are becoming a critical concern, making accurate and efficient simulation a nec ...

A system for interacting with a remote object comprising a wearable jacket for a user, two actuators for supporting arms of the user, motors for causing movements to at least one of a torso and the arms of the user, and sensors for measuring at least one o ...

A wearable system for epileptic seizure detection, comprising an eyeglasses frame, with a left arm and a right arm configured to rest over the ears of an intended person wearing the eyeglasses, a first pair of electrodes located in the left arm, and a seco ...

Cloud Computing aims to efficiently tackle the increasing demand of computing resources, and its popularity has led to a dramatic increase in the number of computing servers and data centers worldwide. However, as effect of post-Dennard scaling, computing ...

Reliably detecting focal seizures without secondary generalization during daily life activities, chronically, using convenient portable or wearable devices, would offer patients with active epilepsy a number of potential benefits, such as providing more re ...

Vertical integration is a promising solution to further increase the performance of future ICs, but such 3D ICs present complex thermal issues that cannot be solved by conventional cooling techniques. Interlayer liquid cooling has been proposed to extract ...

In order to develop sustainable and more powerful information technology (IT) infrastructures, the challenges posed by the "memory wall" are critical for the design of high-performance and high-efficiency many-core computing systems. In this context, recen ...

In search and rescue missions, drone operations are challenging and cognitively demanding. High levels of cognitive workload can affect rescuers’ performance, leading to failure with catastrophic outcomes. To face this problem, we propose a machine learnin ...

Embedded biosignal analysis involves a considerable amount of parallel computations, which can be exploited by employing low-voltage and ultra-low-power (ULP) parallel computing architectures. By allowing data and instruction broadcasting, single instructi ...

This work is dedicated to the sensible optimization and porting of a multi-lead (ML) wavelet-transform (WT)-based electrocardiogram (ECG) wave delineator to a state-of-the-art commercial wearable embedded sensor platform with limited processing and storage ...
