In this paper, we propose a dynamic, non-dominated sorting, multi-objective particle-swarm-based optimizer, named Hierarchical Non-dominated Sorting Particle Swarm Optimizer (H-NSPSO), for memory usage optimization in embedded systems. It significantly red ...

Flow cell arrays (FCAs) provide efficient on-chip liquid cooling and electrochemical power generation capabilities in three-dimensional multi-processor systems-on-chip (3DMPSoCs). When connected to power delivery networks (PDNs) of chips, the current flowi ...

Reconfigurable platforms are a promising technology that offers an interesting trade-off between flexibility and performance, which many recent embedded system applications demand, especially in fields such as multimedia processing. These applications typi ...

High levels of cognitive workload decreases human's performance and leads to failures with catastrophic outcomes in risky missions. Today, reliable cognitive workload detection presents a common major challenge, since the workload is not directly observabl ...

Wearable and unobtrusive monitoring and prediction of epileptic seizures has the potential to significantly increase the life quality of patients, but is still an unreached goal due to challenges of real-time detection and wearable devices design. Hyperdim ...

Although constant technology scaling has resulted in considerable benefits, smaller device dimensions, higher operating temperatures and electric fields have also contributed to faster device aging due to wearout. Not only does this result in the shortenin ...

The design of new streaming systems is becoming a major area of research to deploy services targeted in the Internet-of-Things (IoT) era. In this context, the new High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) standard provides high efficiency and scalability of qual ...

The goal of thermal management is to meet maximum operating temperature constraints, while at the same time tracking timevarying performance requirements. Current approaches avoid thermal violations by forcing abrupt operating points changes (e.g. processo ...

On-chip wires are becoming unreliable as the effect of various noise sources increases with technology scaling. This leads to unpredictable timing delay variations on the interconnect wires. There is a significant need to mitigate the effect of parasitics ...

Counting the number of times a patient coughs per day is an essential biomarker in determining treatment efficacy for novel antitussive therapies and personalizing patient care. There is a need for wearable devices that employ multimodal sensors to perform ...

Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) are composed of a large number of very small devices used for biomedical or environmental monitoring applications. These devices measure various natural processes at different locations, and cooperate in order to aggregate t ...

Networks on Chips (NoCs) are required to tackle the increasing delay and poor scalability issues of bus-based communication architectures. Many of today’s NoC designs are based on single path routing. By utilizing multiple paths for routing, congestion in ...

As embedded computing evolves towards ever more powerful architectures, the challenge of properly interconnecting large numbers of on-chip computation blocks is becoming prominent. Networks-on-Chip (NoCs) have been proposed as a scalable solution to both p ...

In the past decade, computing systems have significantly increased in complexity and power consumption. Nowadays, heterogeneous multi-processor systems-on-chip (MPSoCs) integrate many computing cores. Heterogeneous MPSoCs often comprise general-purpose pro ...

There is great interest in "end-to-end" analysis that captures how innovation at the materials, device, and/or architectural levels will impact figures of merit at the application-level. However, there are numerous combinations of devices and architectures ...

This paper introduces a novel computing architecture devoted to the ultra-low power analysis of multiple bio-signals. Its structure comprises several processors interfaced with a shared acceleration resource, implemented as a Coarse Grained Reconfigurable ...

In this paper, we provide an overview of the MANGO project and its goal. The MANGO project aims at addressing power, performance and predictability (the PPP space) in future High-Performance Computing systems. It starts from the fundamental intuition that ...

The emergence of video streaming applications, together with the users’ demand for high-resolution contents, has led to the development of new video coding standards, such as High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC). HEVC provides high efficiency at the cost of ...

Healthcare delivery is evolving towards new Wireless Body Sensor Nodes (WBSN), which are miniaturized devices able to acquire, process and transmit subjects’ bio-signals in real time within a tiny energy budget. Recent efforts on AD converters and transmis ...

Wireless body sensor networks (WBSNs) are a rising technology that allows constant and unobtrusive monitoring of the vital signals of a patient. The configuration of a WBSN node proves to be critical in order to maximize its lifetime, while meeting the pre ...
