Currently, there is no generally-accepted theory giving a physical explanation of the shear strength in one- and two-way slabs. Furthermore, for members without transverse reinforcement, shear strength is estimated in most codes of practice following empir ...

This work aims at establishing the parameter space for the existence of geodesic acoustic modes (GAMs) on JET as well as investigating their driving and damping mechanisms predicted by different theoretical models. This was achieved using an experimental d ...

The MHD response and the penetration of a deuterium shattered pellet into a JET plasma is investigated via the non-linear reduced MHD code JOREK with the neutral gas shielding (NGS) ablation model. The dominant MHD destabilizing mechanism by the injection ...

We report the first experimental observation of the depolarization of the Thomson scattering (TS) radiation, a relativistic effect expected to occur in very high T-e plasmas and never observed so far in a fusion machine. A set of unused optical fibers in t ...

A set of experiments was carried out in JET ILW (Joint European Torus with ITER-Like Wall) L-mode plasmas in order to study the effects of light impurities on core ion thermal transport. N was puffed into some discharges and its profile was measured by act ...

The presence of post-tensioning tendons in webs decreases the load-carrying capacity of the compression struts that are necessary to transfer shear forces. This effect has been known for a long time, but was initially not included in design codes. In parti ...

Advancing the knowledge about the punching behaviour of flat slabs has been held back by the fact that only indirect measurements of the internal failure mechanism have typically been available. In this paper, a novel experimental approach for tracking the ...

Despite the intensive efforts dedicated in the last decades to better understanding punching shear failures, there is still no consensus on the mechanics governing this phenomenon and on how to implement it within a physical approach. In this paper, an ana ...

The First Mirror Test for ITER has been carried out in JET with mirrors exposed during: (i) the third ILW campaign (ILW-3, 2015-2016, 23.33 h plasma) and (ii) all three campaigns, i.e. ILW-1 to ILW-3: 2011-2016, 63,52 h in total. All mirrors from main cham ...

This paper presents the results of six tests on R/C bridge cantilever slabs without shear reinforcement subjected to concentrated loading. The specimens represent actual deck slabs of box-girder bridges scaled 3/4. They were 10mlong with a clear cantilever ...

The provisions for punching shear around concentrated loads in the new Model Code 2010 (MC2010) have been updated, covering a large number of design cases such as slabs with and without transverse reinforcement, different column/slab geometries and prestre ...

The bond response of deformed bars in structural concrete is a phenomenon governed, to a large extent, by the rib-to-concrete contact and interaction, with contact forces depending on both material properties and the kinematics between the contact surfaces ...

The safety of existing concrete slabs against shear may be insufficient for several reasons such as design and construction errors, structural modifications or increased loads. Moreover, the knowledge about shear design has significantly increased over the ...

Reinforced concrete slabs without shear reinforcement subjected to concentrated loads near linear sup- ports are usually designed or assessed in shear using design provisions that have been calibrated on the basis of tests on one-way slabs or beams with re ...

Particle transport in tokamak plasmas has been intensively studied in the past, particularly in relation to density peaking and the presence of anomalous inward particle convection in L-and H-modes. While in the L-mode case the presence of the anomalous in ...

The ultimate strength of reinforced concrete slabs is frequently governed by the punching shear capacity, which may be increased with addition of traditional fitments such as reinforcing steel, headed studs or shear heads. In addition to these traditional ...

Arch-shaped members are widely used for construction of tunnels, bridges, silos and shells. These members are not typically provided with transverse reinforcement and may thus have a brittle behaviour at failure. When subjected to bending or shear, traditi ...

Most classic investigations on bonding properties in reinforced concrete have been performed on the basis of pull-out tests, where a reinforcement bar is pulled out from an uncracked concrete cylinder, prism or cube. In these tests, the bond is governed by ...

As proposed in several design standards for structural concrete, including Eurocode 2 (EN:1992-1-1:2004) and fib's Model Code 2010, the shear design of slender members with shear reinforcement can be performed by means of consistent models based on suitabl ...

Detailed investigations on the role of the shear transfer actions in members without transverse reinforcement have traditionally been limited due to the possibilities offered by conventional measurement techniques. The main difficulty of such conventional ...
