Abstract

Detailed investigations on the role of the shear transfer actions in members without transverse reinforcement have traditionally been limited due to the possibilities offered by conventional measurement techniques. The main difficulty of such conventional techniques has been tracking the crack pattern and its associated kinematics (crack opening and sliding) during the process of failure. This situation has changed in the last years, with the introduction of photogrammetric measurement techniques. This technique allows obtaining very detailed measurements with high acquisition frequency, allowing a suitable tracking of the cracking process.

Rebar

Rebar (short for reinforcing bar), known when massed as reinforcing steel or reinforcement steel, is a steel bar used as a tension device in reinforced concrete and reinforced masonry structures to strengthen and aid the concrete under tension. Concrete is strong under compression, but has low tensile strength. Rebar significantly increases the tensile strength of the structure.
