We revisit the fate of the skin modes in many-body non-Hermitian fermionic systems. Contrary to the single-particle case, the many-body ground state cannot exhibit an exponential localization of all eigenstates due to the Pauli exclusion principle. However ...

We report on the magnetic properties of single Co atoms on graphene on Pt(111). By means of scanning tunneling microscopy spin-excitation spectroscopy, we infer a magnetic anisotropy of K = -8.1 meV with out-of-plane hard axis and a magnetic moment of 2.2 ...

Sr2CuTeO6 presents an opportunity for exploring low-dimensional magnetism on a square lattice of S = 1/2 Cu2+ ions. We employ ab initio multireference configuration interaction calculations to unravel the Cu2+ electronic structure and to evaluate exchange ...

Here, we present the first muon spectroscopy investigation of graphene, focused on chemically produced, gram-scale samples, appropriate to the large muon penetration depth. We have observed an evident muon spin precession, usually the fingerprint of magnet ...

We report the creation and manipulation of structural phase boundaries in the single-layer quantum spin Hall insulator 1T'-WSe2 by means of scanning tunneling microscope tip pulses. We observe the formation of one-dimensional interfaces between topological ...

Weyl points in three-dimensional systems with certain symmetry carry non-Abelian topological charges, which can be transformed via non-trivial phase factors that arise upon braiding these points inside the reciprocal space. ...

The complex electronic properties of ZrTe5 have recently stimulated in-depth investigations that assigned this material to either a topological insulator or a 3D Dirac semimetal phase. Here we report a comprehensive experimental and theoretical study of bo ...

The marked interplay between the crystalline, electronic, and magnetic structure of atomically thin magnets has been regarded as the key feature for designing next-generation magneto-optoelectronic devices. In this respect, a detailed understanding of the ...

TaSe3 is a layered van der Waals semimetal with several inverted band gaps throughout the entire Brillouin zone and nontrivial Z(2) topological indices, which place it at the boundary between a strong and a weak topological phase. Our transport experiments ...

BiTeI is a giant Rashba spin splitting system, in which a noncentrosymmetric topological phase has recently been suggested to appear under high pressure. We investigated the optical properties of this compound, reflectivity and transmission, under pressure ...

The low-energy electronic structure of nanographenes can be tuned through zero-energy pi-electron states, typically referred to as zero-modes. Customizable electronic and magnetic structures have been engineered by coupling zero-modes through exchange and ...

We theoretically investigate the electron transport in armchair and zigzag graphene nanoribbons (GNRs) chemically functionalized withp-polyphenyl and polyacene groups of increasing length. Our nearest-neighbor tight-binding calculations indicate that, depe ...

Defects in solids are unavoidable and can create complex electronic states that can significantly influence the electrical and optical properties of semiconductors. With the rapid progress in the integration of 2D semiconductors in practical devices, it is ...

Muon spin resonance (mu SR) is a powerful technique for investigating the local magnetic fields in materials through implanted muons. Here we report a mu SR study of chemically produced thermally exfoliated graphene. Our results provide an experimental ans ...

We instigate the angle-dependent magnetoresistance (AMR) of the layered nodal-line Dirac semimetal ZrSiS for the in-plane and out-of-plane current directions. This material has recently revealed an intriguing butterfly-shaped in-plane AMR whose origin is n ...

Exotic quantum phases, arising from a complex interplay of charge, spin, lattice and orbital degrees of freedom, are of immense interest to a wide research community. A well-known example of such an entangled behavior is the Jahn-Teller effect, where the l ...

Distinct to type-I Weyl semimetals (WSMs) that host quasiparticles described by the Weyl equation, the energy dispersion of quasiparticles in type-II WSMs violates Lorentz invariance and the Weyl cones in the momentum space are tilted. Since it was propose ...

Inverse problems are encountered in many domains of physics, with analytic continuation of the imaginary Green's function into the real frequency domain being a particularly important example. However, the analytic continuation problem is ill defined and c ...

We report a comprehensive study of the paradigmatic quasi-1D compound (TaSe4)(2)I performed by means of angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) and first-principles electronic structure calculations. We find it to be a zero-gap semiconductor in t ...

Trigonal tellurium, a small-gap semiconductor with pronounced magneto-electric and magneto-optical responses, is among the simplest realizations of a chiral crystal. We have studied by spin- and angle-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy its unconventional ...
