The extremely large magnetoresistance (XMR) observed in many topologically nontrivial and trivial semimetals has attracted much attention in relation to its underlying physical mechanism. In this paper, by combining the band structure and Fermi surface (FS ...

Superconductors with nontrivial band structure topology represent a class of materials with unconventional and potentially useful properties. Recent years have seen much success in creating artificial hybrid structures exhibiting the main characteristics o ...

Crystalline defects can modify quantum interactions in solids, causing unintuitive, even favourable, properties such as quantum Hall effect or superconducting vortex pinning. Here we present another example of this notion-an unexpected unidirectional Kondo ...

Using first principles methods, we systematically study the crucial steps of CVD growth of CNTs, the binding and the diffusion of the carbon feedstock as well as the nucleation of CNTs. Late transition (Ni, Pd, Pt) and coinage (Cu, Ag, Au) metal catalysts ...

We investigate twisted double bilayer graphene (TDBG), a four-layer system composed of two AB-stacked graphene bilayers rotated with respect to each other by a small angle. Our ab initio band structure calculations reveal a considerable energy gap at the c ...

Two-dimensional (2D) Xenes of a single type of element can offer fascinating electronic properties, such as massless Dirac fermions for extremely high charge-carrier mobility and topological insulators for dissipationless electron transport. However, the r ...

Chalcogen vacancies are generally considered to be the most common point defects in transition metal dichalcogenide (TMD) semiconductors because of their low formation energy in vacuum and their frequent observation in transmission electron microscopy stud ...

Although chromium trihalides are widely regarded as a promising class of two-dimensional magnets for next-generation devices, an accurate description of their electronic structure and magnetic interactions has proven challenging to achieve. Here, we quanti ...

Binary bismuth chalcogenides Bi2Se3, Bi2Te3, and related materials are currently being extensively investigated as the reference topological insulators (TIs) due to their simple surface-state band dispersion (single Dirac cone) and relatively large bulk ba ...

We address the long-standing problem of the ground state of 1T-TaS2 by computing the correlated electronic structure of stacked bilayers using the GW + EDMFT method. Depending on the surface termination, the semi-infinite uncorrelated system is either band ...

Electron-electron interactions play an important role in graphene and related systems and can induce exotic quantum states, especially in a stacked bilayer with a small twist angle(1-7). For bilayer graphene where the two layers are twisted by the 'magic a ...

The ruthenium(II) hexaaqua complex [Ru(H2O)6]2+ reacts with dihydrogen under pressure to give the h2-dihydrogen ruthenium(II) pentaaqua complex [Ru(H2)(H2O)5]2+.The complex was characterized by 1H, 2H and 17O NMR: d H = -7.65 ppm, J HD = 31.2 Hz, d O = -80 ...

Carbon nano-onions are a class of nanomaterials that can exhibit long electron spin relaxation times at room temperature and thus hold promise as potential building blocks for spintronics and quantum information processing devices. Despite first being synt ...

Bulk Rashba systems BiTeX (X = I, Br, Cl) are emerging as important candidates for developing spintronics devices because of the coexistence of spin-split bulk and surface states, along with the ambipolar character of the surface charge carriers. The need ...

We performed calculations of the electronic band structure and the Fermi surface as well as measured the longitudinal resistivity rho(xx)(T,H), Hall resistivity rho(xy)(T,H), and quantum oscillations of the magnetization as a function of temperature at var ...

We address the intrinsic polarization and screening of an external electric field in a broad range of ordered and twisted configurations of multilayer graphene, using an ab initio approach combining density functional theory and the Wannier function formal ...

Extremely large nonsaturating magnetoresistance has recently been reported for a large number of both topologically trivial and nontrivial materials. Different mechanisms have been proposed to explain the observed magnetotransport properties, yet without a ...

Transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs), whether in bulk or in monolayer form, exhibit a rich variety of charge-density-wave (CDW) phases and stronger periodic lattice distortions. While the actual role of nesting has been under debate, it is well understo ...

While bottom-up synthesis allows for precise control over the properties of graphene nanoribbons (GNRs), the use of certain precursor molecules can result in edge defects, such as missing benzene rings that resemble a 'bite'. We investigate the adverse eff ...

Computing the GW quasiparticle band structure and Bethe-Salpeter equation (BSE) absorption spectra for materials with spin-orbit coupling have commonly been done by treating GW corrections and spin-orbit coupling (SOC) as separate perturbations to density- ...
