Constrained by the Nielsen-Ninomiya no-go theorem, in all so-far experimentally determined Weyl semimetals (WSMs) the Weyl points (WPs) always appear in pairs in the momentum space with no exception. As a consequence, Fermi arcs occur on surfaces which con ...

Real-world samples of graphene often exhibit various types of out-of-plane disorder-ripples, wrinkles and folds-introduced at the stage of growth and transfer processes. These complex out-of-plane defects resulting from the interplay between self-adhesion ...

Weyl nodes can be classified into zero-dimensional (0D) Weyl points, 1D Weyl nodal lines, and 2D Weyl nodal surfaces (WNS), which possess finite Chern numbers. Up to date, the largest Chern number of WPs identified in Weyl semimetals is 4, which is thought ...

Nanoelectromechanical systems constitute a class of devices lying at the interface between fundamental research and technological applications. Realizing nanoelectromechanical devices based on novel materials such as graphene allows studying their mechanic ...

The research on layered van der Waals (vdW) magnets is rapidly progressing owing to exciting fundamental science and potential applications. In bulk crystal form, CrCl3 is a vdW antiferromagnet with in-plane ferromagnetic ordering below 17K, and CrI3 is a ...

The single‐atom thickness of graphene holds great potential for device scaling, but its effectiveness as a thin metal‐ion diffusion barrier in microelectronics and a corrosion barrier for plasmonic devices is compromised by weak van der Waals interactions ...

The recent discovery of topologically nontrivial behavior in Co3Sn2S2 stimulated a notable interest in this itinerant ferromagnet (T-C = 174 K). The exact magnetic state remains ambiguous, with several reports indicating the existence of a second transitio ...

Transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) in the 1T polymorph are subject to a rich variety of periodic lattice distortions, often referred to as charge-density waves (CDWs) when not too strong. We study from first principles the fermiology and phonon disper ...

Applying elastic deformation can tune a material's physical properties locally and reversibly. Spatially modulated lattice deformation can create a bandgap gradient, favoring photogenerated charge separation and collection in optoelectronic devices. These ...

We introduce a classification of the radial spin textures in momentum space that emerge at the high-symmetry points in crystals characterized by nonpolar chiral point groups (D2, D3, D4, D6, T, O). Based on the symmetry constraints imposed by these point g ...

The interplay of topological characteristics in real space and reciprocal space can lead to the emergence of unconventional topological phases. In this Letter, we implement a novel mechanism for generating higher-Chern flat bands on the basis of twisted bi ...

We propose monolayer epitaxial graphene and hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) as ultimate thickness covalent spacers for magnetoresistive junctions. Using a first-principles approach, we investigate the structural, magnetic, and spin transport properties of s ...

We investigate, using a first-principles density functional methodology, the nature of magnetism in monolayer 1T phase of tantalum disulfide (1T-TaS2). Magnetism in the insulating phase of TaS2 is a longstanding puzzle and has led to a variety of theoretic ...

Theoretical research on the two-dimensional crystal structure of hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) has suggested that the physical properties of h-BN can be tailored for a wealth of applications by controlling the atomic structure of the membrane edges. Unexp ...

By combining first-principles and classical force field calculations with aberration-corrected high-resolution transmission electron microscopy experiments, we study the morphology and energetics of point and extended defects in hexagonal bilayer silica an ...

In recent years, the notion of 'Quantum Materials' has emerged as a powerful unifying concept across diverse fields of science and engineering, from condensed-matter and coldatom physics to materials science and quantum computing. Beyond traditional quantu ...

We here report a detailed high-pressure infrared transmission study of BiTeCl and BiTeBr. We follow the evolution of two band transitions: the optical excitation beta between two Rashba-split conduction bands, and the absorption. across the band gap. In th ...

Fractional charges are one of the wonders of the fractional quantum Hall effect. Such objects are also anticipated in two-dimensional hexagonal lattices under time reversal symmetry-emerging as bound states of a rotating bond texture called a Kekule vortex ...

We performed an ab initio mol. dynamics simulation of the paramagnetic transition metal ion Cr3+ in aq. soln. Isotropic hyperfine coupling consts. between the electron spin of the chromium ion and nuclear spins of all water mols. have been detd. for instan ...

We report on the structural and electronic properties of the Bi/Au(110)-1 x 4 surface, by combining scanning tunneling microscopy, angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy, and first-principles calculations. The analysis of the precursor 1 x 8 moire struc ...
