Writing disorders are frequent and impairing. However, social robots may help to improve children's motivation and to propose enjoyable and tailored activities. Here, we have used the Co-writer scenario in which a child is asked to teach a robot how to wri ...

One of the main issues with the acceptance of robotic tools in schools is the extracurricular aspect of the learning activities using these robots. In the Cellulo project, we developed a novel robotic platform that aims to provide a ubiquitous, versatile a ...

Handwriting practising, as any other repetitive task, often leads the practiser to an overconcentration state where their performance might be affected by postural and mental fatigue. Short breaks to perform unrelated activities, especially relaxation exer ...

In order to explore the impact of integrating a robot as a facilitator in a collaborative activity, we examined interpersonal distancing of children both with a human adult and a robot facilitator. Our scenario involves two children performing a collaborat ...

In this paper, we present an experiment in the context of a child-robot interaction where we study the influence of the child-robot spatial arrangement on the child’s focus of attention and the perception of the robot’s performance. In the “Co-Writer learn ...

A range of learning analytics (LA) tools have been designed and integrated into university classes to facilitate teaching and learning. However, exercise sessions, the educational setting that complements lectures with practical activities, are commonly ov ...

The present study is part of a project aiming at empirically investigating the process of modeling the partner’s knowledge (Mutual Knowledge Modeling or MKM) in Computer-Supported Collaborative Learning (CSCL) settings. In this study, a macro-collaborative ...

Cet article décrit une application de géolocalisation de groupe en environnement construit. Ce système constitue une plateforme d’exploration de l’impact des technologies de positionnement spatial sur les processus de collaboration entre partenaires géogra ...

The interaction with the various learners in a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) is often complex. Contemporary MOOC learning analytics relate with click-streams, keystrokes and other user-input variables. Such variables however, do not always capture user ...

This paper describes a promising methodology for studying co-located groups: mobile eye-trackers. We provide a comprehensive description of our data collection and analysis processes so that other researchers can take advantage of this cutting-edge technol ...

We describe a pedagogical approach supporting the acquisition of abstraction skills by apprentices in logistics. Apprentices start with a concrete representation in the form of a small-scale model which aims at engaging them in learning activities. Multipl ...

The use of Herbert Clark’s work as a theoretical framework in the Computer Supported Collaborative Work domain is often dismissed or judged as “cooked” and led to a large body of controversy. This article intends to reconsider his contribution and re-exami ...

Reading is an essential skill that plays a crucial role in education, and it involves mastering various sub-skills, such as decoding tokens and acquiring phonological awareness. Research indicates that practising music in an educational setting can enhance ...

We present an eye-tracking study to compare different modalities for visual augmentations of the teacher’s explicit deictic gestures on a video lecture. We compared three visualizations: 1) hand gestures with a pointer, 2) gaze overlay, and 3) no-augmentat ...

Increasing affordability is making multi-tabletop spaces (e.g., in school classrooms) a real possibility, and first design guidelines for such environments are starting to appear. However, there are still very few studies into the usability of such multi-t ...

As different text input devices lead to different typing error patterns, considering the device characteristics when designing an error correction mechanism can lead to significantly improved results. In this paper, we propose and evaluate a spelling corre ...

Little is known about the usage, adoption process and long-term effects of domestic service robots in people’s homes. We investigated the usage, acceptance and process of adoption of a vacuum cleaning robot in nine households by means of a six month ethnog ...

In meetings, people sometimes come across information in the environment or in the conversation. This kind of ac- cidentally encountered information may be or not be rele- vant to the main meeting topic, but stirs people’s temporary interest and mediates g ...

The CoWriter activity involves a child in a rich and complex interaction where he has to teach handwriting to a robot. The robot must convince the child it needs his help and it actually learns from his lessons. To keep the child engaged, the robot must le ...
