Event cameras capture the world at high time resolution and with minimal bandwidth requirements. However, event streams, which only encode changes in brightness, do not contain sufficient scene information to support a wide variety of downstream tasks. In ...

While CMOS single-photon avalanche diode (SPAD) technology has steadily advanced, improving noise, timing resolution, and sensitivity, spatial resolution has been increasing as well. The increase in the number of pixels has made a comprehensive analysis of ...

Cryogenic operation is the backbone of many cutting edge applications. Significant work has been done to characterize and model all cryogenic effects for creating a reliable, robust and efficient cryogenic design across a wide range of technologies and pro ...

The most promising quantum algorithms require quantum processors that host millions of quantum bits when targeting practical applications(1). A key challenge towards large-scale quantum computation is the interconnect complexity. In current solid-state qub ...

Quantum processors rely on classical electronic controllers to manipulate and read out the quantum state. As the performance of the quantum processor improves, non-idealities in the classical controller can become the performance bottleneck for the whole q ...

The overall sensitivity of frontside-illuminated, silicon single-photon avalanche diode (SPAD) arrays has often suffered from fill factor limitations. The fill factor loss can however be recovered by employing microlenses, whereby the challenges specific t ...

Designing SPADs with high sensitivity in a wide wavelength range is crucial since the applications utilizing SPAD-based sensors target different parts of the spectrum. Here, we introduce a novel technique to achieve a wider sensitivity spectrum through the ...

Microchannel plates are electron multipliers widely used in applications such as particle detection, imaging, or mass spectrometry and are often paired with a photocathode to enable photon detection. Conventional microchannel plates, made of glass fibers, ...

Single-photon avalanche diodes (SPADs) can be integrated into large pixel arrays. The aim of this paper is to present a view on how these imagers change the paradigm of wide-field near-infrared imaging (NIRI). Thanks to the large number of pixels that they ...

A method for operating a light microscope comprises emitting and guiding a plurality of illumination light beams towards a specimen (6) to form a plurality of separated illumination light spots (2A, 2B, 2C, 2D) at the specimen; and guiding detection light ...

Fluorescence lifetime imaging offers the unique ability to monitor the molecular status of the tissue microenvironment. However, the scattering nature of tissues remains a challenge for mesoscopic 3D high resolution imaging. We introduce the design of a me ...

This paper presents the characterization and modeling of microwave passive components in TSMC 40-nm bulk CMOS, including metal-oxide-metal (MoM) capacitors, transformers, and resonators, at deep cryogenic temperatures (4.2 K). To extract the parameters of ...

This paper highlights some of the challenges faced in the modeling of MOSFET devices operating at cryogenic temperature (CT). It will review the most important phenomena, including the saturation of the subthreshold swing (S S) below a critical temperature ...

We present the architecture and three applications of the largest resolution image sensor based on single-photon avalanche diodes (SPADs) published to date. The sensor, fabricated in a high-voltage CMOS process, has a resolution of 512 x 128 pixels and a p ...

An optical rangefinder based on time-of-flight measurement, radiates pulsed light toward an object (70), and receives reflected light from the object, the receiver operating in a photon counting mode, so as to generate a pulse for a detected photon. There ...

In preterm infants, there is a risk of life-lasting impairments due to hemorrhagic/ischemic lesions. Our time-domain (TD) near-infrared optical tomography (NIROT) system "Pioneer" aims at detecting both disorders with high spatial resolution. Successfully ...

Tim-domain near-infrared optical tomography (TD NIROT) techniques based on diffuse light were gaining performance over the last years. They are capable of imaging tissue at several centimeters depth and reveal clinically relevant information, such as tissu ...

The design and characterization of an imaging sensor based on single photon avalanche diodes is presented. The sensor was fully integrated in a 0.35µm CMOS technology. The core of the imager is an array of 4x112 pixels that independently and simultaneously ...

We present cryogenic InGaAs HEMTs showing record-low on-resistance and noise characteristics for low-power qubit readout. Our analysis focuses on transistors with different indium channel compositions, 70%, 75%, and 80%, to explain its impact on cryogenic ...

Near infrared optical tomography (NIROT) is an emerging modality that enables imaging the oxygenation of tissue, which is a biomarker of tremendous clinical relevance. Measuring in reflectance is usually required when NIROT is applied in clinical scenarios ...
