The next generation of experiments in high energy particle physics will require a large increase in interaction density, which presents a challenge for particle detectors. Ring imaging Cherenkov detectors (RICH), planned for future upgrades of the LHCb, Be ...

Multiple Qubits should be manipulated to perform practical quantum computing, which requires a broad frequency range for the qubit control chip. We present a 4 K cryo-CMOS quantum control chip featuring a Mixing (MIX)/ Non-return-to-zero (NRZ) mode radio f ...

We present a new, handheld probe for radiotracer detection in vivo and inside operating theatres, where PET scanners cannot be used for radioguided surgery. The device is based on scintillation detectors optically coupled to Silicon Photomultipliers (SiPMs ...

The present invention relates to a direct time-of-flight depth imaging sensor comprising: an array of photodetectors (43) arranged in one or more subgroups (41), wherein each subgroup (41) is divided into a plurality of minigroups (42) of photodetectors (4 ...

We report on an innovative approach to on-chip detection of single fluorescently-labeled magnetic micro-particles by means of Single Photon Avalanche Diode (SPAD) arrays. Our system enables particle separation through magnetic actuation and highly sensitiv ...

It is an annual tradition ever from the start of the IEEE Journal of Solid-State Circuits (JSSC) in 1966 to publish extended manuscripts of a selected set of papers presented at the annual International Solid-State Circuits Conference (ISSCC). In this Nove ...

CMOS single photon detectors enable large pixel arrays and integrated ancillary circuits. As a consequence, higher timing accuracy and reduced power consumption can be achieved at lower costs. This paper discusses applications and implementation considerat ...

We present a CMOS-based hybrid microfluidic system that combines the manipulation of magnetic microparticles through a magnetic field with in situ optical detection via single photon avalanche diodes (SPADs). Magnetic particles are actuated within a glass ...

The present invention relates to a reconfigurable logic circuit comprising - a first, second and third switching circuit arranged for receiving a first input bit, a second input bit and a third input bit, respectively, and each arranged for being configure ...

Diffuse correlation spectroscopy (DCS) is an optical technique that allows for non-invasive measurements of tissue perfusion, and is often used for neuromonitoring applications. However, a major challenge of DCS is low SNR for deep tissue measurements. Rec ...

We present a single-photon camera for fluorescence imaging capable of providing both intensity and images, with an accuracy better than 100ps; the camera was fabricated in standard CMOS technology. As a first step towards the study of biologically relevant ...

Single-photon avalanche diode (SPAD) based sensors and systems enable a variety of applications in biomedical, automotive, consumer, and security domains. While several established standard technologies, which can facilitate the design of SPAD-based system ...

The invention relates to an image sensor comprising a photodetector array including neighboring photodetector elements, each photodetector element comprising: - a photodetector cell having a photodiode and a reset unit; - a cell control unit coupled with t ...

We introduce the world’s first SPAD family design in 130 nm SiGe BiCMOS process. At 1.8 µm, we achieved the smallest pitch on record thanks to guard-ring sharing techniques, while keeping a relatively high fill factor of 24.2%. 4×4 SPAD arrays with two par ...
