Metastable-state photoacids (mPAHs) are chemical species whose photo-activated state is long-lived enough to allow for proton diffusion. Liao's photoacid (1) represents the archetype of mPAHs, and is being widely used on account of its unique capability to ...

The dyes Methyl Calcein Blue, Arsenazo I, and Xylenol Orange, and the metal salts CuCl2 and NiCl2 were used to generate colorimetric sensors for peptides. Two different approaches were followed: (1) Sensors based on dynamic combinatorial libraries of metal ...

Multilayer vesicles with an onion-like architecture can form by self-assembly of organic amphiphiles such as dendrimers, small-molecule surfactants, and block copolymers. Thus far, there are limited reports about multilayer vesicles based on coordination c ...

Microwave heating was employed to promote arene displacement in reactions of [{(p-cymene)RuCl2}(2)] or [{(1,3,5-C-6,H(3)iPr(3))RuCl2}(2)] with neutral chelate ligands L-L' [L-L': 1,1'-bis(diphenylphosphanyl)methane, 1,1'- bis(diphenylphosphanyl)ferrocene, ...

A dynamic combinatorial library of metal–dye complexes was obtained by reacting aqueous solutions of the dyes Methyl Calcein Blue, Arsenazo I, and Xylenol Orange with CuCl2 and NiCl2. The mixture gave a characteristic UV-Vis response upon addition of the p ...

Iron(II) cage complexes with terminal 4-pyridyl groups can be incorporated in metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) via solvent-assisted ligand exchange (SALE). Paddle -wheeled MOFs with N,N'-di-4-pyridylnaphthalenete-tracarboxydiimide pillars were used as start ...

A coumarin derivative was employed for the detection of biogenic amines in buffered aqueous solution by UV-Vis or fluorescence spectroscopy. Incorporated in a polymeric matrix, the dye can also be used for the optical detection of gaseous amines. ...

N-Heterocyclic carbenes (NHCs) react at ambient conditions with nitrous oxide to give covalent adducts. In the crystal, all compounds show a bent N2O group connected via the N-atom to the former carbene carbon atom. Most adducts are stable at room temperat ...

RhCl3 is shown to mediate unusual coupling reactions of tert-butyl acetylene. When RhCl3(H2O)n was heated with four equivalents of tert-butyl acetylene in methanol, the dinuclear complex [{Rh(μ-Cl)(CH2tBu)(tBuC=CHCOCH2tBu)}2] (2) was isolated. A larger exc ...

A supramolecular receptor for short‐chain perfluoroalkyl carboxylates was developed. The receptor displays a cage‐like geometry, with a defined binding site for the carboxylate head groups and an opening for the perfluoroalkyl side chains. The anionic gues ...

A dynamic mixture of iron complexes was used as a colorimetric sensor for sulfated glycosaminoglycans. The sensing ensemble was prepared by mixing [FeCl2(H2O)4] with dipicolylamine, the functionalized bipyridyl ligand N-(6-aminohexyl)-4'-methyl-2,2'-bipyri ...

Atom-transfer radical addition (ATRA) reactions of ethyl trichloroacetate, dichloromalononitrile, or diethyl 2,2-dichloromalonate with olefins followed by dechlorination have provided functionalized cyclopropanes in one step. The RuIII complex [Cp*RuCl2(PP ...

Fluorescent dihydroxypyridine ligands were prepared by attaching pyrene-, dansyl-, and methoxycoumarin-fluorophores via dimethyleneamine linkers. The reaction of these ligands with [(p-cymene)RuCl2]2 or [(C6H5CH2NMe2H)RuCl2]2Cl2 resulted in the formation o ...

A Pd-based indicator displacement assay for the fluorimetric sensing of carbohydrates has been developed. The assay allows the detection of saccharides in the low millimolar concentration range in water at neutral pH. ...

The synthesis of topologically complex structures, such as links and knots, is one of the current challenges in supramolecular chemistry. The so-called Solomon link consists of two doubly interlocked rings. Despite being a rather simple link from a topolog ...

Polycarboxylate ligands are among the most important building blocks for the synthesis of metal–organic frameworks (MOFs). The ability to access these ligands in an efficient way is of key importance for future applications of MOFs. Here, we demonstrate th ...

Spherical assemblies of the type [PdnL2n]2n+ can be obtained from PdII salts and curved N-donor ligands, L. It is well established that the bent angle, α, of the ligand is a decisive factor in the self-assembly process, with larger angles leading to comple ...

Imidazolin-2-imine and imidazolidin-2-imine ligands are versatile N donors in transition metal chemistry. Here, we describe the synthesis and characterization of (arene)Ru complexes with these ligands. Simple adducts of the type [(p-cymene)Ru(L)Cl-2] (L = ...

This review article summarizes efforts to use nitrous oxide (N2O, ‘laughing gas’) as a reagent in synthetic chemistry. The focus will be on reactions which are carried out in homogeneous solution under (relatively) mild conditions. First, the utilization o ...

The synthesis of vinyl triazenes by metal-catalyzed processes is attractive, but only few examples have been described so far. Here, we describe Rh-catalyzed [3+2] annulation reactions of arylboronic acid derivatives and alkynyl triazenes. These reactions ...
