The present invention relates to a functional optical coherent imaging (fOCI) platform comprising at least one active camera unit (ACU) comprising a coherent and/or a partially coherent light source, and means for spectral filtering and imaging a selected ...

Super-resolution opticalfluctuation imaging provides a resolution beyond the diffraction limitby analysing stochasticfluorescencefluctuations with higher-order statistics. Usingnthorderspatio-temporal cross-cumulants the spatial resolution and the sampling ...

The two previously reported calculations of the amplitude distribution of speckles in optical coherence tomography, each based on a different mathematical formulation, yield different results. We show that a modification of an initial assumption in one of ...

We present a fast calculation of the electromagnetic field near the focus of an objective with a high numerical aperture (NA). Instead of direct integration, the vectorial Debye diffraction integral is evaluated with the fast Fourier transform for calculat ...

Alzheimer’s disease is the most common form of dementia in the western world, however there is no cure available for this devastating neurodegenerative disorder. Despite clinical and experimental evidence implicating the intestinal microbiota in a number o ...

Super-resolution optical fluctuation imaging (SOFI) achieves 3D super-resolution by computing temporal cumulants or spatio-temporal cross-cumulants of stochastically blinking fluorophores. In contrast to localization microscopy, SOFI is compatible with wea ...

Fluorescence localization microscopy techniques such as PALM and STORM achieve super-resolution by sequentially imaging sparse subsets of fluorophores, which are localized by means of Gaussian-based localization. Applied to fixed fluorophores, with dipole radiation characteristics, this can lead to an estimation bias in the range of 5-20nm. We introduce a method for the joint estimation of position and orientation of single fluorophores, based on an accurate image formation model expressed as a 3-D steerabl

The invention relates to an optical coherence microscopy system for fast, phase resolved imaging by means of optical coherence microscopy with decoupled illumination and detection apertures, producing a dark-field effect with an enhanced optical contrast. ...

Pharmaceutical composition for the treatment of proteinopathies comprising products which are able to stimulate growth or inhibition of at least one of Odoribacter, Oscillospira, Dehalobacterium, Alistipes, Parabacteroides, Lactobacillus and Sutterella, Fi ...

Focal adhesions are complicated assemblies of hundreds of proteins that allow cells to sense their extracellular matrix and adhere to it. Although most focal adhesion proteins have been identified, their spatial organization in living cells remains challen ...

We introduce a simple and cheap method for phase-shifting Fourier domain optical coherence tomography (FDOCT) that does not need additional devices and can easily be implemented. A small beam offset at the fast beam-scanning mirror introduces a causal phas ...

Current spectroscopic optical coherence tomography (OCT) methods rely on a posteriori numerical calculation. We present an experimental alternative for accessing spectroscopic information in OCT without post-processing based on wavelength de-multiplexing and parallel detection using a diffraction grating and a smart pixel detector array. Both a conventional A-scan with high axial resolution and the spectrally resolved measurement are acquired simultaneously. A proof-of-principle demonstration is given on a

Diffraction-unlimited fluorescence imaging allows the visualization of intact, strongly heterogeneous systems at unprecedented levels of detail. Beyond the acquisition of detailed pictures, increasing efforts are now being focused on deriving quantitative ...

Aims/hypothesis Structural and functional imaging of the islets of Langerhans and the insulin-secreting beta cells represents a significant challenge and a long-lasting objective in diabetes research. In vivo microscopy offers a valuable insight into beta ...

Using a finite-element, full-wave modeling approach, we present a flexible method of analyzing and simulating dielectric and plasmonic waveguide structures as well as their mode coupling. This method is applied to an integrated plasmonic circuit where a straight dielectric waveguide couples through a straight hybrid long-range plasmon waveguide to a uniformly bent hybrid one. The hybrid waveguide comprises a thin metal core embedded in a two–dimensional dielectric waveguide. The performance of such plasmoni

We present a combination of self-interference microscopy with lateral super-resolution microscopy and introduce a novel approach for localizing a single nano-emitter to within a few nanometers in all three dimensions over a large axial range. We demonstrat ...

Resonant Doppler Fourier domain optical coherence tomography (FDOCT) is a functional imaging tool for extracting tissue flow. The method is based on the effect of interference fringe blurring in spectrometer-based FDOCT, where the path difference between s ...

We present parallel single molecule detection (SMD) and fluorescence correlation spectroscopy (FCS) experiments with a fully integrated complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) single-photon 2 X 2 detector array. Multifocal excitation is achieved with a diffractive optical element (DOE). Special emphasis is placed on parallelization of the total system. The performance of the novel single-photon CMOS detector is investigated and compared to a state-of-the-art single-photon detecting module [having an

In recent years, three-dimensional mesoscopic imaging has gained significant importance in life sciences for fundamental studies at the whole-organ level. In this manuscript, we present an optical projection tomography (OPT) method designed for imaging of ...

We develop an information-theoretic framework for the quantitative assessment of the maximum amount of information provided by optical coherence imaging through scattering media. We use our approach to investigate the fundamental dependence of the extracta ...
