Mammalian circadian oscillators are considered to rely on transcription/translation feedback loops in clock gene expression. The major and essential loop involves the autorepression of cryptochrome (Cry1, Cry2) and period (Per1, Per2) genes. The rhythm-gen ...

Several recent studies have shown that fluorescent particles can be localized with an accuracy that is well beyond traditional resolution limits. Using a theoretical model of the image formation process that accounts for possible sources of noise, Cramer-R ...

In the present paper, we address the problem of segmenting biological objects featuring corners. The main ingredients of our approach are automated feature-detection methods and mechanisms for introducing kinks in parametric spline snakes. We formulate a n ...

It is well documented that natural images are compressible in wavelet bases and tend to exhibit fractal properties. In this paper, we investigate statistical models that mimic these behaviors. We then use our models to make predictions on the statistics of ...

Superresolution T2-weighted fetal-brain magnetic-resonance imaging (FBMRI) traditionally relies on the availability of several orthogonal low-resolution series of 2-dimensional thick slices (volumes). In practice, only a few low-resolution volumes are acqu ...

We propose a variational approach to recover concentration from raw fluorescence images of chemical sensors. This allows us to impose prior knowledge regarding the spatiotemporal distribution of the concentration while accounting for the sensor kinetics. ...

Registration of images subject to non-linear warping has numerous practical applications. We present an algorithm based on double multiresolution structure of warp and image spaces. Tuning a so-called scale parameter controls the coarseness of the grid by which the deformation is described and also the amount of implicit regularization. The application of our algorithm deals with undoing unidirectional non-linear geometrical distortion of echo-planar images (EPI) caused by local magnetic field inhomogeneiti

We present a new active contour to segment cell aggregates. We describe it by a smooth tessellation that is attracted toward the cell membranes. Our approach relies on subdivision schemes that are tightly linked to the theory of wavelets. The shape is enco ...

Accurate knowledge of an imaging system's point spread function (PSF) is crucial for successful deconvolution. For fluorescence microscopy, PSF estimations based on either theoretical models or experimental measurements are available. However, due to the a ...

Reconstruction algorithms for Optical Diffuse Tomography (ODT) rely heavily on fast and accurate forward models. Arbitrary geometries and boundary conditions need to be handled rigorously since they are the only input to the inverse problem. From this pers ...

Here we present a method of constructing steerable wavelet frames in

L _{ 2 }

(\mathbb{R} ^{ d }

) that generalizes and unifies previous approaches, including Simoncelli's pyramid and Riesz wavelets. The motivation for steerable wavelets is the nee ...

We present a new exponential B-spline basis that enables the construction of active contours for the analysis of biomedical images. Our functions generalize the well-known polynomial Hermite B-splines and provide us with a direct control over the tangents ...

A wavelet is a localized function having a prescribed number of vanishing moments. In this correspondence, we provide precise arguments as to why the Hilbert transform of a wavelet is again a wavelet. In particular, we provide sharp estimates of the locali ...

Edge-preserving smoothers need not be taxed by a severe computational cost. We present, in this paper, a lean algorithm that is inspired by the bi-exponential filter and preserves its structure-a pair of one-tap recursions. By a careful but simple local ad ...

We investigate the problem of automatic tuning of a deconvolution algorithm for three-dimensional (3D) fluorescence microscopy; specifically, the selection of the regularization parameter lambda. For this, we consider a realistic noise model for data obtai ...

Positron emission tomography (PET) scanners use scintillation crystals to stop high-energy photons. The ensuing lower-energy photons are then detected via photomultipliers. We study the performance of a stack of monolithic siliconpixel detectors as an alte ...

We show in this paper that an optically motivated parameterization of the PSF prevents classical degeneracies of the blind deconvolution in widefield fluorescence microscopy and provides a resolution close to SIM. ...

In this paper, we propose a continuous-domain version of principal-component analysis, with the constraint that the underlying family of templates appears at arbitrary orientations. We show that the corresponding principal components are steerable. Our met ...

Background: Fluorescent and bioluminescent time-lapse microscopy approaches have been successfully used to investigate molecular mechanisms underlying the mammalian circadian oscillator at the single cell level. However, most of the available software and ...
