A new compact 2D planar fluxgate sensor using a ferromagnetic amorphous metal core is described. The fluxgate sensor consists of two orthogonal planar metallic coils and a ring shaped amorphous magnetic ribbon mounted on a PCB substrate. Each planar coil is used alternatively as excitation or as pick-up coil. An electronic interface drives alternatively the two coils and performs a feedback on each sensing coil in order to compensate for the two measured magnetic field omponents. The sensing element has a m

In this paper, we present the giant-magneto-impedance (GMI) effect in a microfabricated closed Permalloy core which surrounds a copper excitation rod. We measured a 90% change in the inductance value of the device for a sinusoidal excitation at 500 kHz in a 4.5mT range. The change in the device resistance is negligible for excitation frequencies below 1 MHz, and goes above 14% for 30 MHz excitation. Magnetic hysteresis of the device inductance is studied and improved by applying periodic “degauss” pulses du

Electromagnetic techniques present definite advantages for Non Destructive Testing such as no need for surface couplant, potential for miniaturization, and fast scanning rates. They suffer, however, from a lack of reliability when crack sizing capabilities ...

This paper presents a new technique to sense the direction of the magnetic field, enabling a new generation of contactless 360 degrees absolute angle encoders. The sensor consists of a microchip that contains a special ring-shaped Hall element. It is the f ...

The paper presents an inductive proximity sensor with fully integrated electronics. The sensor with the compact hybrid configuration is composed of a sensing flat coil and an integrated electronic interface. The sensor exhibits a longitudinal resolution of 120 nm for an aluminum target position up to 500 µm from the sensing coil. The total working range is from 100 µm to 1200 µm. The temperature drift of the sensor is less than 400 ppm/°C. The sensor power consumption is 125 mW and the active sensor dimensi
