IrO2 and boron-doped diamond electrodes were tested by preparative electrolysis of simple model compds. in acid medium. In oxidn. reactions of more complex mechanism than simple electron transfer, these electrodes are active only at potentials of simultaneous oxygen evolution. At IrO2 electrodes, the reaction is mediated by chemisorbed oxygen, probably forming IrO3-type active sites, and yield highly selective oxidn. products at low overpotentials and with moderate current efficiency. At diamond electrodes,

A model for the electrochem. promotion induced by electrochem. generated promoting species is proposed. The formation rate of promoters is assumed to be proportional to the availability of free surface sites at the solid electrolyte/catalyst/gas three-phase boundary, and their spreading out over the gas exposed catalyst surface to be rapid compared to the rate of their consumption. The model predicts exponential catalytic rate transients with current dependent polarization and current independent relaxation

DSA type electrodes (IrOx/Ti) were prepd. by induction heating technique which allows a rapid decompn. of the precursor under anaerobic conditions. With this type of electrode, an activation process is obsd. in cyclic voltammetry which can be related to the presence of metallic Ir within the coatings. The electrooxidn. of alcs. in acid medium was studied by cyclic voltammetry. In the presence of alcs., a large current enhancement was obsd. at E >= 1.3 V/normal H electrode. This great reactivity can be due t

A novel two-step method was developed to prep. gold nanoparticles on boron-doped diamond (BDD) electrode. It consisted of sputter deposition of max. 15 equiv monolayers of gold, followed by a heat treatment at 400-600 Deg in air. The as-sputtered gold depo ...

A review is given on the so-called electrochem. promotion (EP) denoting an elec. controlled modification of the activity and/or selectivity of a heterogeneous catalyst. Efficient EP in dispersed catalyst systems can be achieved using porous solid-electrolyte supports or by the manufg. of microstructured electrochem. reactors. The combustion of ethylene over IrO2 or RuO2 catalysts and the redn. of NO with propylene over Rh catalysts were chosen as model catalytic systems. The catalysts are all deposited on Y

Rhodium thin film catalyst supported on YSZ solid electrolyte and interfaced with a dispersed TiO2 layer (Rh/TiO2/YSZ) exhibits the particular behavior of having two distinct stable states, an inactive (oxidized) and an active (metallic) state, with respect to the partial oxidn. of methane to syngas. Close to stoichiometric gas compn. (CH4:O2=2:1) at 550 DegC, the inactive Rh/TiO2/YSZ catalyst was successfully activated by current application, either pos. or neg. The obsd. phenomenon is an example of "perm

The influence of IrO2 loading on the effectiveness factor Et of the electrochemical oxidation of isopropanol was investigated A model has been proposed based on three main reactions electrochemical IrO2 oxidation to IrO3 chemical oxidation of the organic c ...

The electrochemical oxidation of methanol and formic acid in 1 M HClO4 is studied on boron-doped diamond electrode using differential electrochemical mass spectrometry (DEMS). DEMS is used to identify products and intermediates of the reaction monitored on ...

Tuning of the catalytic reaction rate by electric polarization of the interface between an electron conducting catalyst and an ion conducting support, called electrochemical promotion of catalysis (EPOC), is most often fully reversible. Its state-of-the-ar ...

A new technique is presented for the prepn. of DSA type electrodes. In this technique, the precursor is rapidly decompd. on the substrate by treatment in an induction electromagnetic field. The effects of the rapid heating of H2IrCl6.6H2O precursor on Ti substrate on the morphol. and the compn. of the coating are presented. Formation of metallic Ir is obsd. using this technique. [on SciFinder (R)]

A review with refs. concerning electrochem. oxidn. of orgs. in aq. media on iridium oxide and synthetic diamond based electrodes is presented. Effect of nature of electrode material influence on selectivity and efficiency of this process is considered. The model of reaction mechanism for electrooxidn. of org. compds. with simultaneous evolution of oxygen is proposed. [on SciFinder (R)]

Electro-oxidn. of platinum film electrode deposited on yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ) is examd. in situ using potential programmed voltammetry at 450 DegC in oxygen contg. atm. Under prolonged anodic oxidn. different sorts of oxidized species are formed ...

The catalytic activity of Rh for the partial oxidn. of methane to syngas can be markedly affected by interfacing polycryst. Rh films with a dispersed TiO2 interlayer deposited on YSZ. High CO selectivity (near 97%) can be reached in wide range of CH4:O2 ratio at 550 Deg. The obsd. modification of catalytic activity and selectivity towards CO and H2 prodn. over Rh interfaced with interlayer of TiO2 is related to the lowered stability of surface Rh oxide against redn. to metallic Rh. The phenomenon may be int
