We report on the design and characterization of two inductive proximity sensors based on LC oscillators operating at 500 MHz. The distance from the target is obtained by measuring the oscillation frequency variation. Both sensors contain an off-chip LC res ...

Microwave superconducting resonators are extensively studied in fields such as quantum computing and electron spin resonance (ESR) spectroscopy. However, the integration of superconducting resonators with feedback mechanisms to create ultra-low noise oscil ...

The resolving power, chemical sensitivity and non-invasive nature of NMR have made it an established technique for in vivo studies of large organisms both for research and clinical applications. NMR would clearly be beneficial for analysis of entities at t ...

In this paper, we present a fully-integrated receiver for NMR microscopy applications manufactured in a 0.13 mu m CMOS technology. The design co-integrates a 10-turn planar detection coil together with a complete quadrature, low-IF downconversion receiver ...

We have realized an innovative integrated detector for electron spin resonance spectroscopy. The microsystem, consisting of an LC oscillator, a mixer, and a frequency division module, is integrated onto a single silicon chip using a conventional complement ...

We present the first single-chip array of integrated NMR receivers for parallel spectroscopy and imaging. The array, optimized for operation at 300 MHz, is composed of eight separate channels, with each channel consisting of a detection coil, a tuning capa ...

Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) experiments on subnanoliter (sub-nL) volumes are hindered by the limited sensitivity of the detector and the difficulties in positioning and holding such small samples in proximity of the detector. In this work, we report o ...

Coherent spin resonance methods such as nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and electron spin resonance (ESR) spectroscopy have led to spectrally highly sensitive, non-invasive quantum imaging techniques with groundbreaking applications in fields such as medicine, biology, and physics. Meanwhile, transmission electron microscopy (TEM) offers detailed investigations with sub-atomic resolution, but often inflicts significant radiation damage. Here we exploit synergies and report on an integration of ESR spectros

We report on the design and characterization of single-chip electron spin resonance (ESR) detectors operating at 50 GHz, 92 GHz, and 146 GHz. The core of the single-chip ESR detectors is an integrated LC-oscillator, formed by a single turn aluminum planar ...

Transient electronics show a great potential in the field of bioresorbable medical implants, for applications such as localized drug delivery for wound healing or following a surgical procedure. Once their function is fulfilled, such implants naturally degrade and resorb in the body, which eliminates adverse long-term effects or the need for a secondary surgery to extract the implanted device. Since biodegradable materials are water-soluble, the fabrication of such transient electronic circuits and devices

We show that nanocomposite materials consisting of superparamagnetic nanoparticles embedded in a matrix are very good candidates for a novel generation of Hall nanosensors with high spatial and magnetic resolution, capable of detecting superparamagnetic be ...

A high sensitivity field asymmetric ion mobility spectrometer (FAIMS) was designed, fabricated, and tested. The main components of the system are a 10.6 eV UV photoionization source, an ion filter driven by a high voltage/high frequency n-MOS inverter circ ...

A microscopic four-point probe (u4PP) for resistivity measurements on thin films was designed and fabricated using the negative photoresist SU-8 as base material. The device consists of four microscopic cantilevers, each of them supporting a probe tip at t ...

In article number 1903051, Matthieu Rüegg, Juergen Brugger, and co-workers design, fabricate, and characterize biodegradable magnesium microresonators using an innovative microfabrication process based on ion beam etching. Under a radio-frequency magnetic ...

Element-specific magnetism accessible by synchrotron-based X-ray spectroscopy has proven to be valuable to study spin and orbital moments of transition metals and lanthanides in technologically relevant thin-film and monolayer samples. The access to cohere ...

A Hall sensor comprises a Hall element (1; 30; 31; 60) and an amplifier (2; 32; 33). The Hall element is placed inside the amplifier so that the current flowing through the Hall element also flows through the transistors of an amplifier stage of the amplif ...

Atomically thin materials, such as graphene and transition metal dichalcogenides, are promising candidates for future applications in micro/nanodevices and systems. For most applications, functional nanostructures have to be patterned by lithography. Devel ...

Strain is a proven technique for modifying the bandgap and enhancing carrier mobility in 2D materials. Most current strain engineering techniques rely on the post‐growth transfer of these atomically thin materials from growth substrates to target surfaces, limiting their integration into nanoelectronics. Here, we present a new approach where strain in 2D materials is already introduced directly during their growth on grayscale‐patterned topographies instead of flat surfaces. Both strain levels and orientati

Stencil lithography (SL), which uses a perforated membrane as a reusable shadow mask to locally add material patterns on substrates provides a simple but versatile approach for the fabrication of functional devices on a large variety of substrate materials ...

A rapid acquisition method for two-dimensional (2D) magnetic resonance force microscopy images is described. Spatial resolution is based on gradients in the static magnetic field B0 and in the applied radiofrequency field B1. Hadamard- and Fourier-encoding ...
