Redox mediators play a major role determining the photocurrent and the photovoltage in dye-sensitized solar cells (DSCs). To maintain the photocurrent, the reduction of oxidized dye by the redox mediator should be significantly faster than the electron bac ...

Ultrafast optical probing of electric field by means of electroabsorption combined with conventional photocurrent measurements was employed to investigate the drift and mobility dynamics of photo-generated charge carriers in the pristine PC61BM film and in ...

Cyclometalated ruthenium sensitizers have been synthesized that differ with number of thiophene units on the auxiliary ligands. Sensitizers possessing four (SA25, SA246, and SA285) or none (SA282) sulfur atoms in their structures, were tested in solar cell ...

Iodine added to iodide-based ionic liquids leads to extraordi- narily efficient charge transport, vastly exceeding that expect- ed for such viscous systems. Using terahertz time-domain spectroscopy, in conjunction with dc conductivity, diffusivity and visc ...

The synthesis and control of properties of p-type ZnO is crucial for a variety of optoelectronic and spintronic applications; however, it remains challenging due to the control of intrinsic midgap (defect) states. In this study, we demonstrate a synthetic ...

We report the synthesis and characterization of five new donor–π–spacer–acceptor dye molecules with a diphenylamine donor, fluorene–1,2,5-oxadiazole spacers and a range of acceptor/anchor groups (carboxylic acid 1, cyanoacrylic acid 2 and 3, alcohol 4 and ...

Lead halide perovskites have recently been used as light absorbers in hybrid organic–inorganic solid-state solar cells, with efficiencies as high as 15% and open-circuit voltages of 1 V. However, a detailed explanation of the mechanisms of operation within ...

The plant pigment betanin is investigated as a dye-sensitizer on TiO2 with regard to its potential to undergo two- electron oxidation following one-photon excitation. Electrochemical, spectroelectrochemical and transient absorption measurements provide evi ...

Photoinduced electron transfer from organic dye molecules to semiconductor nanoparticles is the first and most important reaction step for the mechanism in the so called “wet solar cells” [1]. The time scale between the photoexcitation of the dye and the electron injection into the conduction band of the semiconductor colloid varies from a few tens of femtoseconds to nanoseconds, depending on the specific electron transfer parameters of the system, e.g., electronic coupling or free energy values of donor an

Dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) based on Cu-II/I bipyridyl or phenanthroline complexes as redox shuttles have achieved very high open-circuit voltages (V-OC, more than 1 V). However, their short-circuit photocurrent density (J(SC)) has remained modest. ...

Five new donor−π-bridge−acceptor (D−π−A) organic sensitizers with cyano and/or triple bond substituted benzoic acid as acceptor/anchoring groups were synthesized and tested for their performance in dye-sensitized solar cells (DSCs). The systematic incorpor ...

We report a pump–probe spectroscopy study of electron injection rates in dye-sensitized solar cell (DSSC) devices. We examine the case of working devices employing an N719 ruthenium sensitizer and an iodide electrolyte. Electron injection is found to occur ...

Ru(4,4-dicarboxylic acid-2,2'-bipyridine) (4,4'-bis(2-(4-(1,4,7,10-tetraoxyundecyl)phenyl)ethenyl)-2,2'-bipyridine) (NCS)(2), a new high molar extinction coefficient ion-coordinating ruthenium sensitizer was synthesized and characterized using H-1 NMR, Fou ...

Incorporating organic semiconducting spacer cations into layered lead halide perovskite structures provides a powerful approach to mitigate the typical strong dielectric and quantum confinement effects by inducing charge-transfer between the organic and in ...

Incorporating organic semiconductor building blocks as spacer cations into layered hybrid perovskites provides an opportunity to develop new materials with novel optoelectronic properties, including nanoheterojunctions that afford spatial separation of ele ...

The effect of electronic and nuclear factors on the dynamics of dye-to-semiconductor electron transfer was studied employing RuII(terpy)(NCS)3 sensitizers grafted onto transparent films made of titanium dioxide nanoparticles. Various approaches were strive ...

2D hybrid perovskites (2DP) are versatile materials, whose electronic and optical properties can be tuned through the nature of the organic cations (even when those are seemingly electronically inert). Here, it is demonstrated that fluorination of the orga ...

Lead halide perovskites have emerged as promising materials for light-emitting devices. Here, we report the preparation of colloidal CsPbBr3 nanoplatelets (3 × 4 × 23 nm3) experiencing a strong quasi-one-dimensional quantum confine- ment. Ultrafast transie ...

To develop photosensitizers with high open-circuit photovoltage (Voc) is a crucial strategy to enhance the power conversion efficiency (PCE) of co-sensitized solar cells. Here, we show a judiciously tailored organic photosensitizer, coded MS5, featuring th ...

We present a study of the kinetics of electron injection in ruthenium(II) cis-(2,2‘-bipyridyl-4,4‘-dicarboxylate)2(NCS)2-sensitized nanocrystalline TiO2 films as a function of electrical potential applied to the TiO2 film and as a function of the composition of the electrolyte in which the film is immersed. At moderate applied potentials (−0.2 V vs Ag/AgCl), and in the presence of potential determining ions (0.1 M Li+) in the electrolyte, the electron injection kinetics were found to be multiphasic, with a
