In an effort to develop new materials for organic solar cell applications, we have synthesized triads of 3,6-dithien-2-yl-2,5-dialkylpyrrolo[3,4-c]pyrrole-1,4-dione (DTDPP) covalently linked at the nitrogen positions to two [6,6]-phenyl-C61-butyric acid es ...

Photoinduced electron transfer (PET) across molecular/bulk interfaces has gained attention only recently and is still poorly understood. These interfaces offer an excellent case study, pertinent to a variety of photovoltaic systems, photo- and electrochemi ...

The photoelectrochemical properties of TiO2 anatase nanoparticles were studied at the water|1,2-dichloroethane (DCE) interface under potentiostatic control. The interfacial concentration of the electrostatically stabilized particles can be effectively tuned by the Galvani potential difference and the pH of the aqueous phase. At pH values lower than that corresponding to the point of zero zeta potential, the particles assemble at the liquid|liquid boundary region upon positive polarization with respect to th

Iodine added to iodide-based ionic liquids leads to dramatic changes of their physical properties which may have implications for technological applications. Here we study the phase diagram of 1-methyl 3-propylimidazolium iodide, the temperature versus iod ...

The transfer of charge at the molecular level plays a fundamental role in many areas of chemistry, physics, biology and materials science. Today, more than 60 years after the seminal work of R. A. Marcus, charge transfer is still a very active field of res ...

Ultrafast optical probing of the electric field by means of Stark effect in planar heterojunction cyanine dye / fullerene organic solar cells enables to directly monitor the dynamics of free electron formation during the dissociation of interfacial charge ...

A new series of donor–bridge–acceptor (D–B–A) compounds consisting of π-conjugated oligofluorene (oFL) bridges between a ferrocene (Fc) electron-donor and a fullerene (C60) electron-acceptor have been synthesized. In addition to varying the length of the b ...

Some redox-active ionic liquids, organic amorphous solids containing electron-donating moieties, and conductive polymers can efficiently transport positive electrical charges. These hole-conducting media find increasing applications in unconventional solar ...

Two donor-π-acceptor (D-π-A) dyes are synthesized for application in dye- sensitized solar cells (DSSC). These D-π-A sensitizers use triphenylamine as donor, oligothiophene as both donor and π-bridge, and benzothiadiazole (BTDA)/cyanoacrylic acid as accept ...

A series of new pyrido[3,4-b]pyrazine-based organic sensitizers (PP-I and APP-I–IV) containing different donors and p-spacers have been synthesized and employed in dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). The absorption spectra properties of dyes are analysed b ...

Lead halide perovskites have over the past few years attracted considerable interest as photo absorbers in PV applications with record efficiencies now reaching 22%. It has recently been found that not only the composition but also the precise stoichiometr ...

An improved optical design for nanosecond diffuse reflectance (DR) spectroscopy is presented. The in-situ analysis of the electron back-reaction and dye regeneration processes in efficient opaque dye-sensitized solar cell devices (DSCs) was scrutinized for ...

We present a systematic study on the effects of electrodeposition parameters on the photoelectrochemical properties of Cu2O. The influence of deposition variables (temperature, pH, and deposition current density) on conductivity has been widely explored in ...

To improve their efficiency beyond the state-of-the-art, D-pi-A dyes must display increased spectral breadth and account for the physical limitations observed in the dye. sensitized solar cells. In particular, they should be designed to control the electro ...

The mechanism of photoinduced symmetry-breaking charge separation in solid cyanine salts at the base of organic photovoltaic and optoelectronic devices is still debated. Here, we employ femtosecond transient absorption spectroscopy (TAS) to monitor the cha ...

Electron transfers (ET) between a donor (D) and an acceptor (A) through a molecular bridge (B) are of great importance in biological systems, molecular electronics and molecular based light-energy conversion systems. Here, the back and the forward electron ...

In the recent years, the heterojunction solar cells based on quantum dots (QDs) have attracted attention due to strong light absorbing characteristics and the size effect on the bandgap tuning. This paper reports on the kinetics of interfacial charge separ ...

Highly photoluminescent hybrid lead halide perovskite nanoparticles have recently attracted a wide interest in the context of high-stake applications, such as light emitting diodes (LEDs), light emitting transistors and lasers. In addition, they constitute ...

Applying time-resolved electroabsorption spectroscopy for the first time to methylammonium lead triiodide perovskite (MAPbI3) thin films under reverse bias, we monitored optically the ultrafast evolution of the local counter-electric field produced by the ...

Unravelling the nature of the interactions between photogenerated charge carriers in solar energy conversion devices is key to enhance performance. In this perspective, we discuss electroabsorption spectroscopy (EAS), as the spectral bandshape of the elect ...
