Nanocomposites with a high and uniform loading of magnetic nanoparticles are very desirable for various applications. In this study, a simple and scalable route for preparing nanocomposites with a high and uniform loading of magnetic nanoparticles is prese ...

Precipitated oxalates are often nanostructured and can be used as precursors for nanostructured oxides for different applications. The modification of the particle shape and nanostructures of both copper and cobalt oxalates has been demonstrated using poly ...

A thermodynamic model is developed for the precipitation of copper oxalate from aqueous solutions of copper nitrate and sodium oxalate in a small well-mixed batch reactor. This model is then used to explain the discrepancy between experimental pH evolution ...

The overexpression of the folate receptor in most cancers has been widely exploited to specifically deliver folic acid (FA) coupled nanomedicines to tumors. However, complex coupling chemistry is often used to bind FA to the nanoparticles. Furthermore, ver ...

The influence of the composition of the polymer coated polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), vinyl alcohol/vinyl amine copolymer (A-PVA) and polyethylenimine (PEI) coated superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPIONs) on the colloidal stability, cytotoxicity and c ...

The present invention relates to nanoparticles having a mean diameter of < 500nm and comprising, at their surface, a selected material. The nanoparticles are taken up by cells under physiological conditions and can be used to isolate interaction partners o ...

Optical coherence correlation spectroscopy (OCCS) allows studying kinetic processes at the single particle level using the backscattered light of nanoparticles. We extend the possibilities of this technique by increasing its signal-to-noise ratio by a fact ...

For several decades, food-grade synthetic amorphous silica (SAS) have been used as a technological additive to reduce caking of food powders. Human exposure is thus inevitable and safety concerns are taken seriously. The toxicity of silica in general and S ...

During the last 40 years a focus in research was put on sutureless tissue fusion, to handle the limits of conventional suturing such as vascular wall damage due to the enetrating needle, intraluminal foreign body reactions caused by non-absorbable suture m ...

Besides 'bulk' structural and functional ceramic, a third interesting group of inorganic or ceramic materials exists: particles used for medical applications like contrast agent as building blocks for photonic crystals, as thin or thick layers with control ...

New approaches to increase the efficiency of non-viral gene delivery are still required. Here we report a simple approach that enhances gene delivery using permanent and pulsating magnetic fields. DNA plasmids and novel DNA fragments (PCR products) contain ...

The metabolic activity of tumor cells is known to be higher as compared to that of normal cells, which has been previously exploited to deliver nanomedicines to highly metabolic tumor cells. Unfortunately, current strategies, which are mostly based on comp ...

Cysteine stabilized ZnS and Mn2+-doped ZnS nanoparticles were synthesized by a wet chemical route. Using the ZnS:Mn2+ nanoparticles as seeds, silica-coated ZnS (ZnS@Si) and ZnS:Mn2+ (ZnS:Mn2+@Si) nanocomposites were formed in water by hydrolysis and conden ...

Pyridoxal 5'-phosphate (PLP) is the most important cofactor of vitamin B-6-dependent enzymes, which catalyses a wide range of essential body functions (e.g., metabolism) that could be exploited to specifically target highly metabolic cells, such as tumour ...

Superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPION) are used as high-sensitive enhancer for magnetic resonance imaging, where they represent a promising tool for early diagnosis of destructive diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Since we could demon ...

Background Superparamagnetic Iron Oxide Nanoparticles (SPION) are used in diagnostic imaging of a variety of different diseases. For such in-vivo application, an additional coating with a polymer, for example polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), is needed to stabilize ...

The invention relates to nanoparticles based on a metal, on a metal alloy or on a metal derivative coated with a silica layer, in which the silica is crystalline silica, in particular crystalline silica in the cristobalite form. They may be prepared from n ...

Core/shell nanoparticles having metallic silver nanoparticle cores of similar to 38 nm in diameter and silica shells of different thicknesses ranging from similar to 3.6-20 nm were prepared. For the silica coating, a slightly modified Stober method was use ...

The quantification of nanoparticles, particularly superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPIONs), both in vitro and in vivo has become highly important in recent years. Some methods, such as induced coupled plasma (ICP) spectroscopy and UV-visible che ...

Hierarchically porous transparent silica coatings combine large specific surface area with enhanced pore accessibility for optical biosensing. This paper describes a versatile approach to fabricate optically transparent silica coatings with multiscale poro ...
