The formation of oxygen vacancies (Vö) in n-type semiconductors is a key strategy for improving the performance of metal-oxide-based photoanodes. Whereas Vö has traditionally been created by gas- or liquid-phase treatments, here we report a solid-state red ...

Despite the rapid increase in the performance of perovskite solar cells (PSC), they still suffer from low lab-to-lab or people-to-people reproducibility. Aiming for a universal condition to high-performance devices, we investigated the morphology evolution ...

Aqueous dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) are emerging as a promising alternative to enhance both the lifetime and environmental friendliness of traditional DSSCs. Herein, a cobalt-based, jellified (with xanthan gum) aqueous electrolyte, leading to a valu ...

Photoelectrochemical water splitting represents an attractive method of capturing and storing the immense energy of sunlight in the form of hydrogen, a clean chemical fuel. Given the large energetic demand of water electrolysis, and the defined spectrum of ...

The exchange of ions in hybrid organic inorganic perovskites with the general formula APbX(3) (A = MA, FA; X = I, Cl, Br) is studied in five different systems using in situ real-time grazing incident X-ray diffraction (GIXD). In systems where the organic c ...

Mesoporous TiO2 nanoparticle films are used as photoanodes for high efficiency dye-sensitized solar cells (DSC). In spite of excellent photovoltaic power conversion efficiencies (PCE) displayed by titanium dioxide nanoparticle structures, the transport rat ...

Layered hybrid perovskites have emerged as a promising alternative to stabilizing hybrid organic-inorganic perovskite materials, which are predominantly based on Ruddlesden-Popper structures. Formamidinium (FA)-based Dion-Jacobson perovskite analogs are de ...

Indirect nanoplasmonic sensing (INPS) is an experimental platform exploiting localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) detection of processes in nanomaterials, molecular assemblies, and films at the nanoscale. Here we have for the first time applied INPS ...

Photoelectrochemical carbon dioxide reduction (PEC-CO2R) represents a promising approach for producing renewable fuels and chemicals using solar energy. However, attaining even modest solar-to-fuel (STF) conversion efficiency often necessitates the use of ...

We successfully inkjet printed an ionic liquid electrolyte in the dye-sensitized solar cell (DSSC) as a part of a new cell fabrication sequence that eliminates drilling holes in the DSSC substrates. The inkjet printing of ionic liquid electrolyte does not ...

Two donor-π-acceptor (D-π-A) dyes, coded as L-3T-DPA 1 and B-5T-DPA 2, were synthesized for application in dye-sensitized solar cells. These D-π-A sensitizers use diphenylamine as donor, an oligothiophene as π-bridge, and cyanoacrylic acid as an acceptor g ...

Electrochemical reduction of carbon dioxide, using the electricity generated from renewable energy sources, has the potential of rendering a carbon-neutral energy economy. Developing selective, efficient and robust electrocatalysts is the key step towards ...

A perovskite solar cell based on rutile TiO2 film was prepared and its photovoltaic performance was compared to an anatase TiO2-based perovskite solar cell. Rutile TiO2 nanoparticles with aspect ratio of 0.2 (20 nm wide and 100 nm long) were prepared by hy ...

Photoelectrochemical (PEC) cells offer the ability to convert electromagnetic energy from our largest renewable source, the Sun, to stored chemical energy through the splitting of water into molecular oxygen and hydrogen. Hematite (alpha-Fe2O3) has emerged as a promising photo-electrode material due to its significant light absorption, chemical stability in aqueous environments, and ample abundance. However, its performance as a water-oxidizing photoanode has been crucially limited by poor optoelectronic pr

Surface reflections and non-radiative recombinations create energy losses in perovskite solar cells (PSCs) by hindering the generation and extraction of carriers. These losses can reduce device efficiency in practical applications as the incident angle of ...

A series of novel bistriphenylamine-based organic sensitizers (coded as RC-dyes) with high molar extinction coefficients (>5.0 x 10(4) M-1 cm(-1)) have been synthesized for dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). By changing the length of the pi-conjugation br ...

An ullazine unit was employed as a donor moiety in a donor-pi-acceptor (D-p-A) motif, employing the porphyrin macrocycle as a pi-system. Synthesis of this ullazine-porphyrin dyad containing sensitizer (SM63) was achieved and an investigation of the electro ...

Hierarchical or one-dimensional architectures are among the most exciting developments in material science these recent years We present a nanostructured TiO2 assembly combining these two concepts and resembling a forest composed of individual, high aspect ...

The synthesis, characterization, and photovoltaic performance of a series of indacenodithiophene (IDT)-based D--A organic dyes with varying electron-accepting units is presented. By control of the electron affinity, perfectly matching energy levels were ac ...

Today's perovskite solar cells (PSCs) mostly use components, such as organic hole conductors or noble metal back contacts, that are very expensive or cause degradation of their photovoltaic performance. For future large-scale deployment of PSCs, these comp ...
