This paper presents the first low noise complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) terahertz (THz) imager based on source modulation and in-pixel high-Q filtering. The 31 × 31 focal plane array has been fully integrated in a 0 . 13 μ m standard CMOS pr ...

Raman scattering-based biomedical detection has usually been proposed with near-infrared laser sources. However, a low-cost CMOS imager's quantum efficiency is optimum around green wavelength, and their sensitivity substantially decreases in near-infrared ...

Total ionizing dose (TID) mechanisms are investigated in 28-nm MOSFETs via dc static and low-frequency noise measurements. nMOSFETs and pMOSFETs are irradiated up to 1 Grad(SiO2) and annealed at high temperatures. TID sensitivity depends on the channel len ...

“A critical dominant trend in the evolution of the electronics industry is the incredible growth in the sheer number of devices that are being deployed annually across a wide range of applications. Many of these devices are being leveraged to provide interfaces between the analog world and the digital infrastructure that supports the Internet of Everything, providing environmental sensing data to drive more effective pollution management, component data to enhance equipment lifetime and automate repair sche

In a MOSFET transistor, the subthreshold swing defines the switching efficiency, and the associated slope factor, or so-called body factor, is a critical parameter in charge-based models. However, in an advanced Fully -Depleted Silicon-On-Insulator (FDSOI) ...

Boltzmann relations are widely used in semiconductor physics to express the charge-carrier densities as a function of the Fermi level and temperature. However, these simple exponential relations only apply to sharp band edges of the conduction and valence ...

This article presents the design of an ultralow power short-range 57-66 GHz frequency-modulated continuous-wave (FMCW) radar. The transmitter (TX) path includes a BPSK modulator in order to implement a low-IF architecture and it is optimized for short-rang ...

A sub-0.5e−rms temporal read noise VGA (640H×480V) CMOS image sensor has been integrated in a standard 0.18μm 4PM CMOS process. The low noise performance is achieved exclusively through circuit optimization without any process refinements. The presented im ...

A 2.4 GHz low power polar transmitter is proposed in this paper. A dynamic biasing circuit, controlled by a digital envelope signal, is used as a direct digital-to-RF envelope converter. It effectively linearizes the input-output characteristic of the over ...

A 2.4-GHz low power polar transmitter architecture is proposed in this paper. A dynamic biasing circuit, controlled by a digital envelope signal, is used to linearize the input-output characteristic of the overdriven class-C power amplifier. A model of the ...

This work presents the design of a 24-GHz digitally controlled oscillator (DCO) in an advanced 28-nm bulk CMOS technology for short-range frequency-modulated continuous-wave radar system-on-chip for mobile and Internet-of-Things devices. The power minimiza ...

This article investigates the fin- and finger-number dependence of the total ionizing dose (TID) degradation in 16-nm bulk Si FinFETs at ultrahigh doses. n- and p-FinFETs designed with different numbers of fins and fingers are irradiated up to 500 Mrad(SiO ...

This brief reports the analytical modeling and measurements of the inflection in the MOSFET transfer characteristics at cryogenic temperatures. Inflection is the inward bending of the drain current versus gate voltage, which reduces the current in weak and ...

Inexact circuits and approximate computing have been gaining a lot of interest in order to improve performances and energy efficiency beyond the boundaries of conventional digital circuits. Image and video processing is one of the best candidate for applyi ...

Ultralow-power sensing with inference functionality embedded in sensor nodes is essential for enabling the emerging pervasive intelligence. For acoustic inference sensing, the feature extraction can take advantage of power-efficient analog circuits. Howeve ...

Photoplethysmography (PPG) enables non-invasive vitals monitoring. Nevertheless, it is intrinsically limited by the extremely small AC/DC ratio, also called perfusion-index (PI). This increases the dynamic-range requirements to reliably process the PPG wav ...

The energy dissipated by conventional phase-locked-loop-based transmitters (TXs) during the long startup phase is a major bottleneck that reduces the energy autonomy of duty-cycled ultra-low-power systems. In order to tackle this problem, this paper presen ...

Energy-efficiency is a critical concern for many systems, ranging from Internet of things objects and mobile devices to high-performance computers. Moreover, after 40 years of prosperity, Moore's law is starting to show its economic and technical limits. N ...

Inexact and approximate circuit design is a promising approach to improve performance and energy efficiency in technology-scaled and low-power digital systems. Such strategy is suitable for error-tolerant applications involving perceptive or statistical ou ...

Wearable devices are nowadays at the edge-front in both academic research as well as in industry, and several wearable devices have been already introduced in the market. One of the most recent advancements in wearable technologies for biosensing is in the ...
