The deposition of Si and Ge on single-crystal 2212 BiCaSrCuO was studied with synchrotron-radiation photoemission. Contrary to previous results on polycrystalline substrates, clear evidence was found for substitutional reactions involving Bi.

Electrodeposited bismuth telluride (Bi2Te3) nanowires using anodic alumina (AAO) templates show anisotropic thermal properties in a direction parallel and perpendicular to the nanowire/nanochannel axis. The present study reports thermal diffusivity measure ...

The pressure dependence of electrical resistance of single-crystal magnetite (Fe3O4) was measured under quasi-hydrostatic conditions to 100 GPa using low-temperature, megabar diamond-anvil cell techniques in order to gain insight into the anomalous behavio ...

Oxygen vacancies created in anatase TiO2 by UV photons (80–130 eV) provide an effective electron-doping mechanism and induce a hitherto unobserved dispersive metallic state. Angle resolved photoemission reveals that the quasiparticles are large polarons. T ...

An inelastic neutron scattering study of Cu2Te2O5X2 (X=Cl, Br) shows strong dispersive modes with large energy gaps persisting far above T-N, notably in Cu2Te2O5Br2. The anomalous features: a coexisting unusually weak Goldstone-like mode observed in Cu2Te2 ...

The impact of variable Ti self-doping on the 1T-TiSe2 charge density wave (CDW) is studied by scanning tunneling microscopy. Supported by density functional theory, we show that agglomeration of intercalated-Ti atoms acts as preferential nucleation centers ...

We present an overview of the new family of semiconductors BiTeX (X = I, Br, Cl) from the perspective of angle resolved photoemission spectroscopy. The strong band bending occurring at the surface potentially endows them with a large flexibility, as they a ...

We report high-field magnetization, high-frequency electron spin resonance (ESR), and Se-77 nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) measurements on the linear spin tetramer system CuSeO3, consisting of strongly interacting Cu(1) dimers and weakly coupled Cu(2) sp ...

We investigate the spin-stripe mechanism responsible for the peculiar nanometer modulation of the incommensurate magnetic order that emerges between the vector-chiral and the spin-density-wave phase in the frustrated zigzag spin-1/2 chain compound beta-TeV ...

The non-centro-symmetric semiconductor BiTeI exhibits two distinct surface terminations that support spin-split Rashba surface states. Their ambipolarity can be exploited for creating spin-polarized p-n junctions at the boundaries between domains with diff ...
