Most lacustrine deltas are nowadays highly anthropized systems. River training works during past centuries considered rivers mainly as vectors of water and sediments from a point source to a sink. However, numerous problems have been identified by resident ...

Local river widenings serve as a technique for restoring channelized rivers and mitigating river incision. The zone downstream where the widened reach transitions into the channelized river is referred to as the constriction zone. While numerous authors ha ...

This article investigates the performance and accuracy of continuous Real-Time Kinematic (RTK) Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) position tracking for hydromorphological surveys, based on a comprehensive river restoration monitoring campaign. The a ...

Large wood (LW) has an influence on river morphology and sediment dynamics. Protruding blocks might trap LW and allow the formation of local deposits and scour. Such blocks are used as macro-roughness elements in river engineering structures to protect aga ...

Hyperelastic geomembranes have been used as rehabilitation technology in hydropower plants and hydraulic structures since several decades. Recently, their application has been extended to pressure waterways, where challenging flow conditions with high flow velocity and pressure occur. As geomembranes are thin and flexible structures with no bending rigidity, they undergo fluid-structure interactions with large and hopefully reversible deformations when subjected to external loads. This paper focuses on flui

In this study, we present results from continuous field monitoring and a flume ex-periment of a sediment augmentation measure in a residual flow reach of the Swiss midlands. A straight morphological channel with fixed bed material was constructed to repres ...

After a major flood with a peak discharge of 177 m³/s in the city of Martigny (Valais, Switzerland) by the alpine river Drance in October 2000, the local authorities are strengthening efforts for the protection of the urban area. The Drance has an annual a ...

Chancy-Pougny is a run-of-river dam on the Swiss-French border constructed in the early 1920s. Since its inauguration, the operation of the four spillway gates was responsible for a progressive erosion of the stilling basin. Thus, a hybrid modelling was pe ...

Reservoir sedimentation is a worldwide problem affecting sustainable storage use as well as sediment transport downstream of dams. Various techniques are applied for sediment mitigation, among which, venting of turbidity currents. This paper reviews, discu ...

This study is within the frame of the construction of the rail link between Geneva Cornavin station, Eaux-Vives station and Annemasse (CEVA). The project area is located at a cut-and-cover tunnel built by slurry walls located in the alluvium of the Foron R ...

The Arve River is the most important tributary of the Rhone River The Arve has a very high sediment transport capacity due to its steep slope in the Alpine Valley. These solid materials deposit in the Rhone River. Because of the high sedimentation rate in ...

The Rhône River, second largest in Switzerland, has already been corrected twice (1863-1893; 1930-1960) to ensure safety and economic development in the Rhône valley. However, in October 2000, the highest flood of the century occurred showing the limitatio ...

This article presents assessment methods for the hydromorphological effectiveness of sediment augmentation measures downstream of dams. First, we describe different ways of quantifying hydromorphological effectiveness based on typical objectives of sedimen ...

UHPFRC for the rehabilitation and protection of concrete surfaces against hydroabrasion. Hydraulic structures made of reinforced concrete show damage as a result of hydroabrasion and alkali-silica reaction. This damage can be repaired efficiently using the ...
