This lecture covers the global and local approaches of the Finite Element Method (FEM). It explains the index form of the system of equations, advantages and disadvantages of the global approach, and the integral formulation of the problem. The local approach is discussed in detail, focusing on the compactness of nodal shape functions, assembly of elementary quantities, and the stiffness matrix. Examples of finite element assembly and components of the stiffness matrix are also presented.
