This lecture covers the theory of elasticity to describe the vibrational modes of (nano)mechanical resonators. Topics include stresses and strains, Euler-Bernoulli beam theory, different boundary conditions, mode shapes, effective mass concept, and examples of mode shapes. The dynamics of the resonator are simplified as that of a simple harmonic oscillator with effective parameters.
