Luc TestaTeaching & PhD Courses General physics : mechanics PHYS-101(e) Give the student the basic notions that will allow him or her to have a better understanding of physical phenomena, such as the mechanics of point masses. Acquire the capacity to analyse quantitatively the consequences of these effects with appropriate theoretical tools. General physics : thermodynamics PHYS-106(d) The goal of General Physics is to give the student the basic notions to have a better understanding
Guido BurmeisterTeaching & PhD Courses Physics (for CMS) PREPA-022 To understand the phenomena and fundamental laws for rotations (theorem for the angular momentum, electrostatics and magnetostatics. Physics (for CMS) PREPA-021 To understand the fundamental phenomena of newtonian mechanics and the laws describing them, in particular the vector quantities (e.g. Newton's law). Physics (for MAN) PREPA-033 This course presents how to broach some natural phenomena by adequate mode

Marcelo Baquero RuizTeaching & PhD PhD Students Michael Goddijn, Cyrille Sepulchre Past EPFL PhD Students as codirector Kadi Lyes Roland Courses Fusion and industrial plasma technologies PHYS-632 The course provides an overview of the technologies that are essential for fusion developments and for industrial plasmaapplications, highlighting the synergies between the two fields. The aim is to provide a combined theoretical andexperimental background to the various topics. General physics : mechanics (English
Iva Tkalcec VâjuTeaching & PhD Past EPFL PhD Students as codirector Lucas Degeneve Courses Physics lab (metrology) PHYS-117 This course is a practical introduction to classical measurement techniques in a physics laboratory. It aims at familiarising the students with data acquisition, sensors, signal processing, vacuum and cryogenics. Physics lab IIIa PHYS-319 The students observe a number of physical phenomena and their technological applications. The course aims at acquiring knowledge abou
Roger SauserTeaching & PhD Courses Descriptive geometry (for MAN) PREPA-091 The course addresses the techniques of parallel projections (axonometry and Monge representation) and central projection (perspective) in order to develop the student's ability to describe and study objects and spatial situations by illustrating them with technical drawings. ICS (for CMS) PREPA-026 The present course presents numerical methods for solving nonlinear equations, computing definite integrals and sol

Dominique BonvinDominique Bonvin is Professor and Director of the Automatic Control Laboratory of EPFL. He received his Diploma in Chemical Engineering from ETH Zürich, and his Ph.D. degree from the University of California, Santa Barbara. He worked in the field of process control for the Sandoz Corporation in Basel and with the Systems Engineering Group of ETH Zürich. He joined the EPFL in 1989, where his current research interests include modeling, control and optimization of dynamic systems. He served as Director of the Automatic Control Laboratory for the periods 1993-97, 2003-2007 and again since 2012, Head of the Mechanical Engineering Department in 1995-97 and Dean of Bachelor and Master Studies at EPFL for the period 2004-2011.
