Eva Klok-LermannTeaching & PhD Courses Physical chemistry of polymeric materials MSE-431 The student has a basic understanding of the physical and physicochemical principles which result from the chainlike structure of synthetic macromolecules. The student can predict major characteristics of a polymer from its chemical structure and molecular architecture.
Abtin SaatehI am a Doctoral assistant in BIOS group while doing my Ph.D. in the Biotechnology and Bioengineering program at EPFL. My research interests are focused on Point-of-Care, Sensors, Microfluidics, and Biomimetics. My research interests are not confined to the list above. I always thirst for learning about new research areas, since I am sure that I may become engrossed in them.I got my Bachelor's degree from the University of Tabriz in Mechanical Engineering and worked on droplet-surface interaction and superhydrophobicity. Afterward, I went to Bilkent University to do my master’s degree in Material Science and Nanotechnology. I developed a real-time impedimetric system for droplet measurement in droplet-microfluidic systems. Meanwhile, I investigated droplet monodispersity and reached new milestones in obtaining ultra-monodisperse droplets. My current project is in the plasmonic biosensors field, specifically on continuous biosensors. I am open to collaboration with fellow researchers in the biosensor and plasmonics field.

Marcel DrabbelsDr. Marcel Drabbels studied experimental physics at the University of Nijmegen (the Netherlands) and in 1993 obtained his Ph.D. at that same university. He then moved to the University of California at Santa Barbara where he studied the dynamics of highly vibrationally excited molecules and developed a new detection technique to investigate the photodissociation of molecules. When he returned to the Netherlands in 1996 he joined the FOM Institute for Atomic and Molecular Physics in Amsterdam where he worked on the development of new types of infrared imaging and streak cameras. In 1997 Dr. Drabbels was awarded a fellowship of the Royal Dutch Academy of Sciences and he moved to the Free University of Amsterdam where he studied the collision dynamics of molecules and initiated photodissociation experiments using ultrafast lasers. In October 1998 he was appointed as senior scientist at the EPFL where he studies the spectroscopy and dynamics of nanoscale systems. In March 2021 he was promoted to titular professor.
Henning Paul-Julius StahlbergMission
We use high-resolution cryo-electron microscopy to study neurodegeneration and other protein systems. We also develop novel imaging technology in the areas of electron microscopy hardware and applications, sample preparation, data collection schemes, and data analysis software systems. The Stahlberg group is supported by the University of Lausanne, Faculty of Medicine and Biology, and by the EPFL, Faculty of Basic Sciences, Physics Institute. The LBEM is a research laboratory of both UNIL and EPFL.
Francesco StellacciFrancesco Stellacci graduated in Materials Engineering at the Politecnico di Milano in 1998 with a thesis on photochromic polymers with Prof. Giuseppe Zerbi and Mariacarla Gallazzi. In 1999 he moved to the Chemistry Department of the University of Arizona for as a post-doc in the group of Joe Perry in close collaboration with the group of Seth Marder. In 2002 he moved to the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology as an assistant professor. He was then promoted to associate without (2006) and with tenure (2009). In 2010 he moved to the Institute of Materials at EPFL as a full Professor. He holds the Alcan EP Chair. Francesco was one of the recipients of the Technology Review TR35 "35 Innovator under 35" award in 2005, and the Popular Science Magazine "Brilliant 10" award in 2007. He has been a Packard Fellow starting 2005.
