With the never slowing interest in dielectric electroactive polymer (DEAP) actuators for medical applications, the need to optimize the management of the driving energy of these actuators becomes evermore important. In order to tackle the problematic of th ...

This paper provides an efficient way to simulate the transient electromagnetic field coupling to overhead multi conductor transmission lines in time domain based on an analytical iterative technique. The method is entirely in time domain and therefore can ...

The paper presents a method to identify the location of direct lightning strikes to overhead transmission lines and potential subsequent flashover(s). The method is based on the electromagnetic time reversal theory and relies on the use of a single measure ...

Electromagnetic time reversal (EMTR) has emerged as a promising technique to locate disturbances in power grids, thanks to its location accuracy and robustness against parameters uncertainties. Furthermore, in a reflective medium, like the one of a power n ...

In addition to the general aims of lightning research such as lightning physics and meteorology, the study of upward lightning is of particular importance in protection of tall objects such as wind turbines and telecommunication towers. It also helps us in ...

Within the frame of the R& D activities carried out in Europe for the toroidal field coils of the nuclear fusion device DEMO, a fundamental milestone was considered to be the demonstration of Nb3Sn cable-in-conduit conductors (CICC) performance in the dema ...

More than 60 years ago, Prof. S. Rusck introduced a coupling model to take into account the interaction of lightning-generated electromagnetic fields with overhead power transmission and distribution lines. The model which assumes that the ground is perfec ...

With the aim of gaining a better physical insight into linear regimes in gyrotrons, a new linear model was developed. This model is based on a spectral approach for solving the self-consistent system of equations describing the wave-particle interaction in ...

This thesis deals with the application of electromagnetic time reversal to locating transient disturbance sources and the use of the asymptotic theory for the modelling of their interaction with transmission lines. We demonstrate that the time-of-arrival, ...

In this paper, we present a performance analysis of the European Cooperation for Lightning Detection (EUCLID) lightning detection network using data obtained on lightning currents measured at the Santis Tower (located in northeastern of Switzerland) from J ...

In this paper, we present a theoretical analysis of the propagation effects of lightning electromagnetic fields over a mountainous terrain. The analysis is supported by experimental observations consisting of simultaneous records of lightning currents and ...

We report a broadband H-1 NMR study of the spin dynamics of coated maghemite and goldmaghemite hybrid nanostructures with two different geometries, namely dimers and coreshells. All the samples have a superparamagnetic behavior, displaying a blocking tempe ...
