Combining ion mobility spectrometry and cryogenic ion spectroscopy with enzymatic digestion/synthesis for the study of N-linked glycans

Glycans play an essential role in numerous physiological and pathological processes of living organisms. Despite their significant biological relevance, glycobiology remains one of the least explored fields of biochemistry. The intrinsic isomeric complexit ...

Quantum state-resolved methane scattering from Ni(111) and NiO(111) by bolometer infrared laser tagging: The effect of surface oxidation

Rainer Beck, Christopher Scott Reilly, Bo-Jung Chen, Daniel Jonathan Auerbach, Patrick Floss

We describe a novel UHV state-to-state molecule/surface scattering apparatus with quan- tum state preparation of the incident molecular beam and angle-resolved quantum state detection of the scattered molecules. State resolved detection is accomplished usi ...

Interfacial Inversion, Interference, and IR Absorption in Vibrational Sum Frequency Scattering Experiments

Sylvie Roke

Molecular interfacial structure greatly determines thepropertiesof nano- and microscale systems. Vibrational sum frequency scattering(SFS) spectroscopy is a unique interface-selective tool to measurethe interfacial vibrational spectrum of sub-micron to mic ...

Metasurface-Enhanced Infrared Spectroscopy: An Abundance of Materials and Functionalities

Hatice Altug, Andreas Tittl, Aurélian Michel John-Herpin, Felix Ulrich Brikh

Infrared spectroscopy provides unique information on the composition and dynamics of biochemical systems by resolving the characteristic absorption fingerprints of their constituent molecules. Based on this inherent chemical specificity and the capability ...

Isotope Effects on the Electronic Spectra of Ammonia from Ab Initio Semiclassical Dynamics

Jiri Vanicek, Yannick Calvino Alonso, Eriks Kletnieks

Despite its simplicity, the single-trajectory thawed Gaussian approximation has proven useful for calculating the vibrationally resolved electronic spectra of molecules with weakly anharmonic potential energy surfaces. Here, we show that the thawed Gaussia ...

Cost-effective equalization of electro-optic frequency combs in a Sagnac interferometer

Camille Sophie Brès, Jianqi Hu, Ivan Cardea

We present a cost-effective electro-optic frequency comb generation and equalization method using a single phase modulator inserted in a Sagnac interferometer layout. The equalization relies on the interference of comb lines generated in both clockwise and ...

Multistage Ion Mobility Spectrometry Combined with Infrared Spectroscopy for Glycan Analysis

Thomas Rizzo, Ahmed Ben Faleh, Stephan Warnke, Priyanka Bansal

The structural complexity of glycans makes their characterization challenging, not only because of the presence of various isomeric forms of the precursor molecule but also because the fragments can themselves be isomeric. We have recently developed an IMS ...

Secondary Structures of MERS-CoV, SARS-CoV, and SARS-CoV-2 Spike Proteins Revealed by Infrared Vibrational Spectroscopy

Marta Di Fabrizio

All coronaviruses are characterized by spike glycoproteins whose S1 subunits contain the receptor binding domain (RBD). The RBD anchors the virus to the host cellular membrane to regulate the virus transmissibility and infectious process. Although the prot ...

Antenna-coupled infrared nanospectroscopy of intramolecular vibrational interaction

Hatice Altug

Many photonic and electronic molecular properties, as well as chemical and biochemical reactivities are controlled by fast intramolecular vibrational energy redistribution (IVR). This fundamental ultrafast process limits coherence time in applications from ...

Nanomechanical resonators with low dissipation for quantum optomechanics

Alberto Beccari

Fields of technology as diverse as microwave filter construction, characterization of material interfaces with atomic precision, and detection of gravitational waves from astronomical sources employ mechanical resonators at their core. The utility of mecha ...

Charging and Electric Field Effects on Hydrogen Molecules Physisorbed on Graphene

Klaus Kern

Molecular hydrogen adsorbed on graphene was investigated by analyzing rotational excitation spectra obtained with a gate-tunable scanning tunneling microscope (STM). Through the shift of the rotational excitation energy, the tunability of physisorbed H2 on ...
