COSMOS-Web: Intrinsically Luminous z ≳ 10 Galaxy Candidates Test Early Stellar Mass Assembly

We report the discovery of 15 exceptionally luminous 10 less than or similar to z less than or similar to 14 candidate galaxies discovered in the first 0.28 deg(2) of JWST/NIRCam imaging from the COSMOS-Web survey. These sources span rest-frame UV magnitud ...

XXXIV. The effect of linear redshift-space distortions in photometric galaxy clustering and its cross-correlation with cosmic shear

Frédéric Courbin, Georges Meylan

Context. The cosmological surveys that are planned for the current decade will provide us with unparalleled observations of the distribution of galaxies on cosmic scales, by means of which we can probe the underlying large-scale structure (LSS) of the Univ ...

Tracing the rise of supermassive black holes A panchromatic search for faint, unobscured quasars at z ≥ 6 with COSMOS-Web and other surveys

Michaela Hirschmann

We report the identification of 64 new candidates of compact galaxies, potentially hosting faint quasars with bolometric luminosities of L-bol = 10(43)-10(46) erg s(-1), residing in the reionization epoch within the redshift range of 6 less than or similar ...

CURLING - I. The influence of point-like image approximation on the outcomes of cluster strong lens modelling

Jean-Paul Richard Kneib

Cluster-scale strong lensing is a powerful tool for exploring the properties of dark matter and constraining cosmological models. However, due to the complex parameter space, pixelized strong lens modelling in galaxy clusters is computationally expensive, ...

Strong gravitational lensing's 'external shear' is not shear

David Richard Harvey

The distribution of mass in galaxy-scale strong gravitational lenses is often modelled as an elliptical power-law plus 'external shear', which notionally accounts for neighbouring galaxies and cosmic shear along our line of sight. A small amount of externa ...

Searching for Strong Gravitational Lenses

Frédéric Courbin, Cameron Alexander Campbell Lemon

Strong gravitational lenses provide unique laboratories for cosmological and astrophysical investigations, but they must first be discovered - a task that can be met with significant contamination by other astrophysical objects and asterisms. Here we revie ...

Euclid: Validation of the MontePython forecasting tools

Frédéric Courbin, Georges Meylan

Context. The Euclid mission of the European Space Agency will perform a survey of weak lensing cosmic shear and galaxy clustering in order to constrain cosmological models and fundamental physics. Aims. We expand and adjust the mock Euclid likelihoods of t ...

Validation of the Scientific Program for the Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument

Jean-Paul Richard Kneib, Daniel Felipe Forero Sanchez, Andrei Variu

The Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI) was designed to conduct a survey covering 14,000 deg(2) over 5 yr to constrain the cosmic expansion history through precise measurements of baryon acoustic oscillations (BAO). The scientific program for DESI ...

The phase-space distribution of the M 81 satellite system

Oliver Müller, Nick Heesters

The spatial distribution of dwarf galaxies around their host galaxies is a critical test for the standard model of cosmology because it probes the dynamics of dark matter halos and is independent of the internal baryonic processes of galaxies. Comoving pla ...

The DESI one-per cent survey: exploring the halo occupation distribution of luminous red galaxies and quasi-stellar objects with ABACUSSUMMIT

Jiaxi Yu

We present the first comprehensive halo occupation distribution (HOD) analysis of the Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI) One-Percent Survey luminous red galaxy (LRG) and Quasi Stellar Object (QSO) samples. We constrain the HOD of each sample and t ...

Euclid preparation XXXVI. Modelling the weak lensing angular power spectrum

Frédéric Courbin, Georges Meylan, Austin Chandler Peel

This work considers which higher order modeling e ffects on the cosmic shear angular power spectra must be taken into account for Euclid. We identified the relevant terms and quantified their individual and cumulative impact on the cosmological parameter i ...

Extremely Red Galaxies at z=5-9 with MIRI and NIRSpec: Dusty Galaxies or Obscured Active Galactic Nuclei?

Michaela Hirschmann

We study a new population of extremely red objects (EROs) recently discovered by the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) based on their NIRCam colors F277W - F444W > 1.5 mag. We find 37 EROs in the Cosmic Evolution Early Release Science Survey (CEERS) field ...

Euclid preparation XXXVII. Galaxy colour selections with Euclid and ground photometry for cluster weak-lensing analyses

Frédéric Courbin, Georges Meylan

Aims. We derived galaxy colour selections from Euclid and ground-based photometry, aiming to accurately define background galaxy samples in cluster weak-lensing analyses. These selections have been implemented in the Euclid data analysis pipelines for gala ...

Euclid: The search for primordial features

Frédéric Courbin, Georges Meylan

Primordial features, in particular oscillatory signals, imprinted in the primordial power spectrum of density perturbations represent a clear window of opportunity for detecting new physics at high-energy scales. Future spectroscopic and photometric measur ...

New insight on the nature of cosmic reionizers from the CEERS survey

Michaela Hirschmann

The Epoch of Reionization (EoR) began when galaxies grew in abundance and luminosity, so their escaping Lyman continuum (LyC) radiation started ionizing the surrounding neutral intergalactic medium (IGM). Despite significant recent progress, the nature and ...

Time-Delay Cosmography: Measuring the Hubble Constant and Other Cosmological Parameters with Strong Gravitational Lensing

Frédéric Courbin, Martin Raoul Robert Millon

Multiply lensed images of a same source experience a relative time delay in the arrival of photons due to the path length difference and the different gravitational potentials the photons travel through. This effect can be used to measure absolute distance ...

Hydrodynamical simulations of merging galaxy clusters: giant dark matter particle colliders, powered by gravity

David Richard Harvey

Terrestrial particle accelerators collide charged particles, then watch the trajectory of outgoing debris - but they cannot manipulate dark matter. Fortunately, dark matter is the main component of galaxy clusters, which are continuously pulled together by ...

SUNBIRD : a simulation-based model for full-shape density-split clustering

Daniel Felipe Forero Sanchez

Combining galaxy clustering information from regions of different environmental densities can help break cosmological parameter degeneracies and access non-Gaussian information from the density field that is not readily captured by the standard two-point c ...
