The exploration of electronically excited states and the study of diverse photochemical and photophysical processes are the main goals of molecular electronic spectroscopy. Exact quantum-mechanical simulation of such experiments is, however, beyond current ...

Molecular quantum dynamics simulations are essential for understanding many fundamental phenomena in physics and chemistry. They often require solving the time-dependent Schrödinger equation for molecular nuclei, which is challenging even for medium-sized ...

Computational chemistry aims to simulate reactions and molecular properties at the atomic scale, advancing the design of novel compounds and materials with economic, environmental, and societal implications. However, the field relies on approximate quantum ...

Fields of technology as diverse as microwave filter construction, characterization of material interfaces with atomic precision, and detection of gravitational waves from astronomical sources employ mechanical resonators at their core. The utility of mecha ...

Magnetic skyrmions are whirl-like spin configurations with particle-like properties protected by non-trivial topology. Due to their unique spin structures and dynamical properties, they have attracted tremendous interests over the past decade, from fundame ...

Many physical and chemical reactions are driven by nonadiabatic processes, which imply the breakdown of the celebrated Born-Oppenheimer approximation. To understand these processes, experimentalists employ spectroscopic techniques. However, the obtained re ...

Molecular spectroscopy is an essential experimental technique in both fundamental physical sciences and applied research. For example, electronic spectroscopy, in which light induces a change in the electronic state of a molecule, is a powerful tool for st ...

With the development of quantum optics, photon correlations acquired a prominent role as a tool to test our understanding of physics, and played a key role in verifying the validity of quantum mechanics. The spatial and temporal correlations in a light fie ...

Vibrationally resolved electronic spectra of polyatomic molecules provide valuable information about the quantum properties of both electrons and nuclei. This chapter reviews the recent progress in ab initio semiclassical calculations of such spectra, base ...

Understanding light-induced processes in biological and human-made molecular systems is one of the main goals of physical chemistry. It has been known for years that the photoinduced dynamics of atomic nuclei can be studied by looking at the vibrational su ...

Atomistic simulations are a bottom up approach that predict properties of materials by modelling the quantum mechanical behaviour of all electrons and nuclei present in a system. These simulations, however, routinely assume nuclei to be classical particles ...

Imaginary time path-integral (PI) simulations that account for nuclear quantum effects (NQE) beyond the harmonic approximation are increasingly employed together with modern electronic-structure calculations. Existing PI methods are applicable to molecules ...

I present a molecular beam study of methane dissociation on differ-ent surface sites of several platinum single crystal surfaces (Pt(111), Pt(211), Pt(210), Pt(110)-(2x1)). The experiments were performed in a molecular beam/surface-science apparatus that c ...

We present a methodology for computing vibrationally and time-resolved pump-probe spectra, which takes into account all vibrational degrees of freedom and is based on the combination of the thawed Gaussian approximation with on-the-fly ab initio evaluation ...

The intrinsic structure of an opioid peptide [Ala2, Leu5]-leucine enkephalin (ALE) has been investigated using first-principles based vibrational self-consistent field (VSCF) theory and cold ion spectroscopy. IR-UV double resonance spectroscopy revealed th ...

Investigating the effect of isotope substitution on equilibrium and kinetic properties of molecules has become an important tool for estimating the importance of nuclear quantum effects. In this work, we discuss calculating both equilibrium and kinetic iso ...

With an increase of computational capabilities, ab initio molecular dynamics becomes the natural choice for exploring the nuclear dynamics of solids. As based on classical mechanics, the validity of this approach is, in-principle, limited to the high-T reg ...

For the development of a DEMOnstration Fusion Power Plant the design of auxiliary heating systems is a key activity in order to achieve controlled burning plasma. The present heating mix considers electron cyclotron resonance heating (ECRH), neutral beam i ...

Understanding the elementary steps involved in a chemical reaction forms the cornerstone of physical chemistry research. One way to deepen this understanding is by studying chemical and physical processes using linear and nonlinear spectroscopic techniques ...

Vibrational spectroscopy is a fundamental tool to investigate local atomic arrangements and the effect of the environment, provided that the spectral features can be correctly assigned. This can be challenging in experiments and simulations when double pea ...
