The present doctoral work was performed to contribute to the conceptual design development and safety assessment of a Generation IV Sodium Fast Reactor (SFR) in the frame of the European Sodium Fast Reactor Safety Measures Assessment and Research Tools (ES ...

In the present article, we detail the method used to experimentally determine the power of the CROCUS zero-power reactor, and to subsequently calibrate its ex-core monitor fission chambers. Knowledge of the reactor power is a mandatory quantity for a safe ...

The present relates to a chemical reactor comprising a catalyst bed enclosed in a reactor vessel and at least one cooling tube placed in the reactor vessel and passing through the catalyst bed, characterized in that the cooling tubes are disposed within th ...

A proof-of-concept prototype of a medium-scale heterogeneous catalytic reactor for continuous production of hydrogen through formic acid (FA) dehydrogenation has been developed. A commercial proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cell (FC) fed with the result ...

Nowadays, the fine chemical industry requires increasingly faster time-to-market as well as economically efficient and safe processes. In addition, the growing product variety needs more versatile production plants able to produce from small amounts up to ...

A simple and general procedure has been developed to determine the thermal behaviour of a reactor based on heat balance, PID temperature control, and jacket behaviour. Using only temperature heating/cooling ramps followed by isothermal stages, such a proce ...

Background: It is still unknown which types of nanomaterials and associated doses represent an actual danger to humans and environment. Meanwhile, there is consensus on applying the precautionary principle to these novel materials until more information is ...

Abstract of the conference paper The kinetic identification of chemical reaction systems often represents a time-consuming and complex task. This contribution presents an approach that uses rate estimation and feedback linearization to implement ...

Many chemical and biochemical industries utilize chemical reaction processes to get desired products from raw materials. Common examples include reaction systems used to manufacture pharmaceutical drugs, vaccines and other chemicals. A chemical reaction sy ...

The findings of the EU 'Materials Assessment Group' (MAG), within the 2012 EU Fusion Roadmap exercise, are discussed. MAG analysed the technological readiness of structural, plasma facing and high heat flux materials for a DEMO concept to be constructed in ...

Nowadays, the production in fine chemical and pharmaceutical industry is mostly carried out in large scale batch reactors having typically dimensions of a few meters to satisfy the demand of the market. Even though this technology has been widely used and ...

Models of chemical reactors can be quite complex as they include information regarding the reactions, the transfer of species between phases, the transfer of energy, and the inlet and outlet flows. Furthermore, the effects of the various phenomena are quit ...

A comprehensive program of integral experiments, largely based on the measurement of reaction rate distributions, was carried out recently in the PROTEUS zero-power research reactor at the Paul Scherrer Institute in Switzerland, employing a fuel lattice re ...

Desorption processes of low-molecular-weight compounds from the surface of smectites into the gas phase determine a number of processes, e.g. those involved in drug delivery and the release of herbicides. The desorption has not been investigated thoroughly ...

The Supercritical-Water-Cooled Reactor (SCWR) is the Generation IV reactor concept most closely related to current light water reactors (LWRs). The SCWR builds on the vast experience with today's LWRs and supercritical coal-fired power plants. Water at sup ...

In this thesis, we proposed to study polymer-based thick-film resistors (TFRs) made of graphite particles dispersed in an epoxy matrix. Three main axes were investigated: formulation of the composites, characterization with the determination of electrical, ...

The identification of kinetic models is an essential step for the monitoring, control and optimization of industrial processes. This is particularly true for the chemical and pharmaceutical industries, where the current trend of strong competition calls fo ...

Monitoring, control and optimization of chemical reaction systems often requires in-depth analysis of the underlying reaction mechanisms. This dissertation investigates appropriate tools that facilitate the analysis of homogeneous and gas-liquid reaction s ...

The use of zeolites for catalytic reactions is a field in continuous development. Since it was demonstrated that metal-zeolites are efficient catalysts for NOx abatement, decomposition of nitrous oxide (N2O) over Fe-containing zeolites has attracted great ...
