The Robots for Learning workshop series aims at advancing the research topics related to the use of social robots in educational contexts. The full-day workshop follows on previous events in Human-Robot Interaction conferences focusing on efforts to design ...

In this paper, we present a robotic approach to improve the teaching of handwriting using the tangible, haptic-enabled and classroom-friendly Cellulo robots. Our efforts presented here are in line with the philosophy of the Cellulo platform: we aim to crea ...

With the exponential growth of robotics and the fast development of their advanced cognitive and motor capabilities, one can start to envision humans and robots jointly working together in unstructured environments. Yet, for that to be possible, robots nee ...

This paper presents a novel strategy to learn a positional controller for the body of a flexible surgical manipulator used for minimally invasive surgery. The manipulator is developed within the STIFF-FLOP European project and is targeted for a laparoscopi ...

Population-based learning techniques have been proven to be effective in dealing with noise in numerical benchmark functions and are thus promising tools for the high-dimensional optimization of controllers for multiple robots with limited sensing capabili ...

Robotic fish are nowadays developed for various types of research, such as bio-inspired robotics, biomimetics and animal behavior studies. In the context of our research on the social interactions of the zebrafish Danio Rerio, we developed a miniature robo ...

In this article we address the automatic synthesis of controllers for the coordinated movement of multiple mobile robots, as a canonical example of cooperative robotic behavior. We use five distributed noise-resistant variations of Particle Swarm Optimizat ...

Technology is now an important part of our lives. We often see robots cited as the future of education, and reports of their imminent entrance in schools. New projects create buzz in the media and online, but when we look at the actual situation, very few ...
