This paper describes the construction process of a scenographic structure - five meters high spiral. It consists of following parts: CAD modeling work-flow, prototyping and FEM structural calculation, assembly and on-site loading test. The structure was co ...

Substantial progress and development in additive manufacturing (AM) technologies have been realised during the last decade but have hardly been implemented on AM systems due to old numerical solutions still used by the AM digital thread, for instance STL ( ...

Electric discharge machining (EDM) is one of the viable techniques for machining of D2 steel, in which the material removal occurs by spark erosion. The poor selection of EDM parameters affect the machining quality and productivity. Considering this, the p ...

This paper illustrates the role of additive manufacturing (AM) as enabling technology to realize high-performance low-cost antennas for Ka-band applications. In addition to the inherent electromagnetic challenges implicit in the conception of such complex ...

Integral Mechanical Attachment (IMA) uses features in the form of components for their connection. In addition to the transfer of forces, locator features are used as integral assembly guides. Prismatic, single-degree-of-freedom (1DOF) joints only allow fo ...

The ITER Central Solenoid (CS), positioned in the center of the ITER tokamak, will provide a magnetic field, contributing to the confinement of the plasma. The 13 m high CS consists of a vertical stack of 6 independently driven modules, dynamically activat ...

Titanium alloys manifest low thermal conductivity and high work hardenability in machining. These alloys are thus considered as difficult-to-machine at higher cutting speeds and pose serious problems in machining such as degraded machined surface and rapid ...

This study presents a model for the optimization of machining parameters for the minimum energy consumption in a multi-pass turning operation. The model takes into account finishing and roughing passes separately for the energy optimization followed by the ...

The fabrication of high precision miniaturized components in micro- and nano-technologies requires a deep understanding of the physical mechanisms governing the nanomachining process. To aid with this need, the current article employs molecular dynamics to ...

The milling process has been continuously optimized from many aspects: forces, velocities, stability, quality. Numerous papers have been published that report results in the domain of toolpath optimization with criteria such as raising the quality of the m ...

High speed milling (HSM) is the most known machining process due to its application in various industries. In milling, a rotating cutting tool removes a large amount of material along a predefined toolpath to manufacture the final part with a desired shape ...

Pocket milling is the most known machining operation in the domains of aerospace, die and mold manufacturing. In the present work, GA-OptMill, a Genetic Algorithm (GA) based optimization system for minimization of pocket milling time, is developed. A wide ...

In the milling of large monolithic structural components for aircraft, 70-80% of the total cut volume is removed using high-speed roughing operations. In order to achieve the economic objective (i.e. optimal part quality in minimal machining time) of this ...

This paper has an energy consumption reduction perspective by considering alternative machining strategies and system components interactions translated into variable and constant power flows with respect to various use phase regimes of a machine tool syst ...

This thesis is motivated from the fundamental decision problem in today's manufacturing industry which could be summarized as one simple question: how is it possible to achieve economic growth by taking advantage of the latest technologies while protecting ...

Rotor-bearing systems take an important place in engineering applications and are used in many industrial systems: gas turbines, compressors, jet engines, machine-tool spindles, etc. The spindle is an essential component of manufacturing systems involving ...

Milling is a most common type of material removal process by rotating tools to create a variety of features on a part. The material is removed in a controlled way by sweeping a rotating cylindrical tool along the specific trajectory known as milling tool p ...

The rigid body motion of thin walled parts and their elastic-plastic deformations induced during high speed milling are the main root causes of part geometrical and dimensional variabilities; these are governed mainly from the choice of process plan parame ...

This paper deals with 5-axis milling of hydraulic blades. The issue developed is essentially linked to problems due to the transition from 3 to 5 axes. A specific attention is done to the Inverse Kinematics Transformation (IKT) which can be source of incoh ...

The electrical discharge machining process (EDM) was discovered in the 1950s, and was then used essentially to destroy unrecoverable damaged screws. Since then, huge progress has been achieved in making this process reliable and able to perform the most co ...
