Accurate and reproducible color characterization is essential for colored building integrated photovoltaic products, both for manufacturing quality control and assessing long-term color stability. However, existing characterization techniques struggle to a ...

Recent work indicates that visual features are processed in a serially dependent manner: The decision about a stimulus feature in the present is influenced by the features of stimuli seen in the past, leading to serial dependence. It remains unclear, howev ...

Megapixel single-photon avalanche diode (SPAD) arrays have been developed recently, opening up the possibility of deploying SPADs as general-purpose passive cameras for photography and computer vision. However, most previous work on SPADs has been limited ...

With the increase in massive digitized datasets of cultural artefacts, social and cultural scientists have an unprecedented opportunity for the discovery and expansion of cultural theory. The WikiArt dataset is one such example, with over 250,000 high qual ...

The colorful wings of butterflies result from the interaction between light and the intricate chitinous nanostructures on butterflies’ scales. This study demonstrates that just by reproducing the chitinous ridges present in butterfly scales (i.e., without ...

Herein, an investigation of multi-generational recyclability of polypropylene fibre reinforced concrete (PPFRC) was performed. The parent concretes were produced with 0 and 6 kg/m(3) of polypropylene fibres. After recycling, the obtained coarse recycled co ...

Problem. Our current economic systems are deemed unsustainable. Although a global issue, the objective of living in a sustainable society is increasingly an urban challenge, as a rising 50% of the world's population currently dwell in cities. To secure a b ...

In this paper, we design linear precoders for the downlink of a visible light communication (VLC) system that simultaneously serves multiple users. Instead of using phosphor-coated white light-emitting diodes (PWLEDs), we focus on Red-Green-Blue light-emit ...

This paper presents the combined effect of indoor temperature (19 degrees C, 22 degrees C, and 26 degrees C) and colored glazing (blue, orange, and neutral) on visual perception of daylight. Experiments were performed in an office-like test room, in which ...

Novel supramolecular gelators based on quinoline-indolin-2-one structure were synthesized. These gelators formed stable organogels in a mixture of DMSO/H2O (1:1). The scanning electron microscopy (SEM), IR and NMR spectroscopies, and rheological measuremen ...

JPEG XL is a practical, royalty-free codec for scalable web distribution and efficient compression of high-quality photographs. It also includes previews, progressiveness, animation, transparency, high dynamic range, wide color gamut, and high bit depth. U ...

Under specular reflection, non-isotropic halftones such as line halftones printed on an ink-receiving plastic layer superposed with a metallic layer change their colors upon in-plane rotation of the print. This color change is due to the orientation-depend ...

In this paper we propose a novel layered-printing method consisting of superposed visible cmy and invisible fluorescent ultraviolet (UV) rgb inks. Our approach can be used to generate a variety of visual color-alteration effects such as revealing two compl ...

Since 1895, when the Lumière brothers came out with the projected cinematograph, motion pictures and more generally multimedia contents have considerably improved and are still experiencing a very dynamic development. Advances involved improving various mo ...

We present a versatile technique to convert textures with tristimulus colors into the spectral domain, allowing such content to be used in modern rendering systems. Our method is based on the observation that suitable reflectance spectra can be represented ...

A novel method is proposed in the scope of image segmentation that solves this problem by breaking it into two main blocks. The first block's functionality is a method to anticipate the color basis of each segment in segmented images. One of the challenges ...

Physically based spectral rendering has become increasingly important in recent years. However, asset textures in such systems are usually still drawn or acquired as RGB tristimulus values. While a number of RGB to spectrum upsampling techniques are availa ...

Limited time-resolution in microscopy is an obstacle to many biological studies. Despite recent advances in hardware, digital cameras have limited operation modes that constrain frame-rate, integration time, and color sensing patterns. In this paper, we pr ...

New emerging technologies in the field of multimedia, such as high dynamic range and wide color gamut, challenge the performance of existing image and video data processing algorithms, especially in terms of visual data compression and its faithful represe ...

Scattering of light due to the presence of aerosol particles along the path of radiation causes atmospheric haze in images. This scattering is significantly less severe in longer wavelength bands than in shorter ones, thus the importance of near-infrared ( ...
