A range of behavioral and contextual factors, including eating and drinking behavior, mood, social context, and other daily activities, can significantly impact an individual's quality of life and overall well-being. Therefore, inferring everyday life aspe ...

Systems and methods for monitoring penile tumescence are provided that overcome the drawbacks of previously known systems by providing a wearable formed of a flexible and elastic tube having a plurality of sensors disposed on or embedded within it, the wea ...

Smartphones present many interesting opportunities for survey research, particularly through the use of mobile data collection applications (apps). There is still much to learn, however, about how to integrate apps in general population surveys. Recent stu ...

Weight loss is key to controlling the increasing prevalence of metabolic syndrome (MS) and its components, i.e., central obesity, hypertension, prediabetes and dyslipidaemia. The goals of our study were two-fold. First, we characterised the relationships b ...

Over the years, mobile phones have become versatile devices with a multitude of capabilities due to the plethora of embedded sensors that enable them to capture rich data unobtrusively. In a world where people are more conscious regarding their health and ...

This article describes the design and the characterization of the ANTIGONE (ANalog To dIGital cONvErter) ASIC (Application Specific Integrated Circuit) built in AMS 0.35 m technology for low dc-current sensing. This energy-efficient ASIC was specifically d ...

Background: Many addictive behaviours are influenced by the context in which they occur, but methods for simultaneously capturing the characteristics of a behaviour and its context are scarce. This study describes a smartphone application developed to docu ...

Despite human geographers’ growing recognition of the need to explore how digital technologies are increasingly co‐producing geographies, the methodological implications of such forms of data production are rarely discussed. This paper explores how smartph ...

Embedded systems are deployed in security critical environments and have become a prominent target for remote attacks. Microcontroller-based systems (MCUS) are particularly vulnerable due to a combination of limited resources and low level programming whic ...

Power-Force-Velocity profile obtained during a sprint test is crucial for designing personalized training and evaluating injury risks. Estimation of instantaneous velocity is requisite for developing these profiles and the predominant method for this estim ...

Smartphone applications that use passive sensing to support human health and well-being primarily rely on: (a) generating low-dimensional representations from high-dimensional data streams; (b) making inferences regarding user behavior; and (c) using those ...

Background: Physical activity and sleep are behavioral risk factors for cancer that may be influenced by environmental exposures, including built and natural environments. However, many studies in this area are limited by residence-based exposure assessmen ...

Over a third of the world 's population owns a smartphone. As generic computing devices that support a large and heterogeneous collection of mobile applications (apps), smartphones provide a plethora of functionalities and services to billions of users. B ...

Introduction The European population is rapidly ageing. In order to handle substantial future challenges in the healthcare system, we need to shift focus from treatment towards health promotion. The PreventIT project has adapted the Lifestyle-integrated Ex ...

The aim of this study was to test the feasibility and accuracy of a smartphone application to measure the body length of children using the integrated camera and to evaluate the subsequent weight estimates. A prospective clinical trial of children aged 0–< ...

The Kamusi Project, a multilingual online dictionary website, has as one of its goals to document the lexicons of en-dangered and less-resourced languages (LRLs). Kamusi.org provides a unified platform and repository for this kind of data that is both simp ...

This paper presents an overview of the Mobile Data Challenge (MDC), a large-scale research initiative aimed at generating innovations around smartphone-based research, as well as community-based evaluation of mobile data analysis methodologies. First, we r ...

Modern software often provides automated testing and bug reporting facilities that enable developers to improve the software after release. Alas, this comes at the cost of user anonymity: reported execution traces may identify users. We present a way to mi ...

PowerPC Architecture microcontrollers are commonly used in embedded applications. In this work we present FireBird, the first PowerPC based SoC for reliable operation beyond 200C. It is a significant challenge to design SoCs for reliable operation at high ...
