Innovations in decision-making processes in sustainable urban projects: a comparative analysis in Argentina, Cuba and Thailand

Résumé

The goal of our presentation it to contribute to gain a better understanding of the strengths and limitations of emerging “innovative” approaches to urban planning aiming at integrating the three relevant EES aspects of sustainable development. Analysis is based on an ongoing comparative and transdisciplinary research project, conducted in the frame of the National Centre of Competence in Research North-South, Switzerland, focused on the study of local urban projects in different regions of the world: a)The San Francisco Block Recovery Project in the frame of The Program of Residential Consolidation (PRC) of the Management plan for the historic center of Buenos Aires (MPHCBA), Argentina; b)The Plaza Vieja Project in the frame of the The Master Plan for the Rehabilitation of the Historic Centre of Havana, Cuba; and c)The Revitalization of Tha Tian Historic Community (RTTHC) in the frame of the Conservation Master Plan for Bangkok (CMPB), Thailand.

Urban design

Urban design is an approach to the design of buildings and the spaces between them that focuses on specific design processes and outcomes. In addition to designing and shaping the physical features of towns, cities, and regional spaces, urban design considers 'bigger picture' issues of economic, social and environmental value and social design. Ville durable, éco-ville ou ville verte, sont des expressions qui désignent une ville ou une unité urbaine respectant les principes du développement durable et de l'urbanisme écologique, qui vise à prendre en compte simultanément les enjeux sociaux, économiques, environnementaux et culturels de l'urbanisme pour et avec les habitants. Il s'agit par exemple de mettre en œuvre une architecture HQE, en facilitant les modes de travail et de transport sobres ou en développant l'efficience du point de vue de la consommation d'énergies et des ressources naturelles et renouvelables.
