In this paper, we propose an analytical stochastic dynamic programming (SDP) algorithm to address the optimal management problem of price-maker community energy storage. As a price-maker, energy storage smooths price differences, thus decreasing energy arb ...

Smart contracts have emerged as the most promising foundations for applications of the blockchain technology. Even though smart contracts are expected to serve as the backbone of the next-generation web, they have several limitations that hinder their wide ...

Why have countries formerly leading public policies of housing – Norway, the U.K., France, etc. – shifted towards privatizing accommodation from the late 1970s? Have these States merely let go of housing and handed it over to private interests in the name ...

Among heterosexual couples, employment of the female partner may suffer from household migration often driven by the job of the male partner. Most research has traditionally focused on the distance moved after couple formation and has neglected how far par ...

The recent geopolitical conflicts in Europe have underscored the vulnerability of the current energy system to the volatility of energy carrier prices. In the prospect of defining robust energy systems ensuring sustainable energy supply in the future, the ...

We study an energy market composed of producers who compete to supply energy to different markets and want to maximize their profits. The energy market is modeled by a graph representing a constrained power network where nodes represent the markets and lin ...

In-network devices around the world monitor and tamper with connections for many reasons, including intrusion prevention, combating spam or phishing, and country-level censorship. Connection tampering seeks to block access to specific domain names or keywo ...

Biorefineries hold the potential to provide products and energy carriers at reduced environmental impact compared to their fossil-based counterparts. Thus, they can contribute to the decarbonization of sectors in which electrification of demands is challen ...

We are used to defining network neutrality as absence of traffic differentiation, like policing or shaping. These mechanisms, however, are often not what determines end-users’ quality of experience (QoE). Most content today is accessed through edge caches, ...

With more than 220 large dams in operation, compared to its surface of some 41ʹ000 km2, Switzerland has a very large fleet. They were erected to meet various economic and protection needs. Their main assignments concern the storage of water for later use, ...

Headwater streams often experience intermittent flow. Consequently, the flowing drainage network expands and contracts and the flowing drainage density (DD) varies over time. Monitoring the DD dynamics is essential to understand the processes controlling i ...

Classic synchronous consensus algorithms are leaderless in that processes exchange proposals, choose the maximum value and decide when they see the same choice across a couple of rounds. Indulgent consensus algorithms are typically leader-based. Although t ...

With the recent advent of blockchains, we have witnessed a plethora of blockchain proposals. These proposals range from using work to using time, storage or stake in order to select blocks to be appended to the chain. As a drawback it makes it difficult fo ...

Peer-to-peer (P2P) sharing may foster sustainability synergistically by saving resources, reducing costs and promoting satisfaction of consumer needs and social connectivity. A survey of Swiss and Swedish consumers (N = 1522) was conducted to analyze drive ...

This work addresses the problem of learning the topology of a network from the signals emitted by the network nodes. These signals are generated over time through a linear diffusion process, where neighboring nodes exchange messages according to the underl ...

Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) are habitually trained via the back-propagation (BP) algorithm. This approach has been extremely successful: Current models like GPT-3 have O(10 11 ) parameters, are trained on O(10 11 ) words and produce awe-inspiring resu ...

Incidents where water networks are contaminated with microorganisms or pollutants can result in a large number of infected or ill persons, and it is therefore important to quickly detect, localize and estimate the spread and source of the contamination. In ...

In the last decade, DNA has been increasingly investigated as an alternative medium for cold data storage, presenting several advantages over standard hard drives such as a higher density, longer lifespan and lower energy consumption. However, such coding ...

In control system networks, reconfiguration of the controller when agents are leaving or joining the network is still an open challenge, in particular when operation constraints that depend on each agent's behavior must be met. Drawing our motivation from ...

We propose an incentive mechanism for the sponsored content provider (CP) market in which the communication of users can be represented by a graph, and the private information of the users is assumed to have a continuous distribution function. The CP stipu ...
