Stabilizing liquid-liquid interfaces, whether between miscible or immiscible liquids, is crucial for a wide range of applications, including energy storage, microreactors, and biomimetic structures. In this study, a versatile approach for stabilizing the w ...

Superlattice formation afforded by metal halide perovskite nanocrystals has been a phenomenon of interest due to the high structural order induced in these self-assemblies, an order that is influenced by the surface chemistry and particle morphology of the ...

Many natural and industrial processes involve fluid flow at a three phase interface between liquid, solid and gas. When the liquid is forced to move rapidly over the solid surface, the physical mechanisms governing contact line motions are multi-phase and ...

The high zinc and iron contents of electric arc furnace (EAF) dust in the forms of zinc ferrite (ZnFe2O4) and magnetite (Fe3O4) make it a valuable secondary source of these metals. ZnFe2O4 and Fe3O4 are known to form a solid solution at all compositions, a ...

Colloids self-organize into icosahedral clusters composed of a Mackay core and an anti-Mackay shell under spherical confinement to minimize the free energy. This study explores the variation of surface arrangements of colloids in icosahedral clusters, focu ...

The development of cost-effective and earth-abundant semiconducting materials is imperative for the sustainable deployment of photovoltaic technology. Zinc phosphide (Zn3P2) is a promising candidate for terawatt-scale electricity generation. It has a near- ...

The surface charge of an open water surface is crucialfor solvationphenomena and interfacial processes in aqueous systems. However, themagnitude of the charge is controversial, and the physical mechanismof charging remains incompletely understood. Here we ...

Complex oxide heterointerfaces contain a rich playground of novel physical properties and functionalities, which give rise to emerging technologies. Among designing and controlling the functional properties of complex oxide film heterostructures, verticall ...

Growth approaches that limit the interface area between layers to nanoscale regions are emerging as a promising pathway to limit the interface defect formation due to mismatching lattice parameters or thermal expansion coefficient. Interfacial defect mitig ...

One of the biggest driving forces in cement research today is the mitigation of the CO2 emissions caused by its production. A potential solution to reduce the environmental impact is to replace cement with supplementary cementitious materials (SCMs). This ...

Predictive synthesis–structure–property relationships are at the core of materials design for novel applications. In this regard, correlations between the compositional stoichiometry variations and functional properties are essential for enhancing the perf ...

Liquid metals (LMs) have been used in electrochemistry since the 19th century, but it is only recently that they have emerged as electrocatalysts with unique properties, such as inherent resistance to coke-poisoning, which derives from the dynamic nature o ...

Using classical molecular dynamics simulations, we investigate the dielectric properties at interfaces of water with graphene, graphite, hexane, and water vapor. For graphite, we compare metallic and nonmetallic versions. At the vapor-liquid water and hexa ...

Super junctions (SJs) have enabled unprecedented performance in Silicon power devices, which could be further improved by applying this concept to wide bandgap semiconductors like gallium nitride (GaN). Currently, polarization super junctions (PSJs) are th ...

Zinc phosphide (Zn3P2) is an earth-abundant semiconductor with promising properties for applications as an absorber in photovoltaics. To beat the 40 years old record power conversion efficiency of solar cells made with this material, a deep understanding o ...

The growth modulation of metal nanocrystals (NCs) by Ostwald ripening (OR) involves control of the relocation of matter by diffusional mass transfer from the dissolution of small nanocrystals (SNCs) towards large nanocrystals whose surface energy is lower. ...

Selective area epitaxy (SAE) provides the path for scalable fabrication of semiconductor nanostructures in a device-compatible configuration. In the current paradigm, SAE is understood as localized epitaxy, and is modelled by combining planar and self-asse ...

Li-S batteries are a promising alternative to Li-ion batteries, offering large energy storage capacity and wide operating temperature range. However, their performance is heavily affected by the Li-polysulfide (LiPS) shuttling. Computational screening of L ...

The majority of current semiconductor technologies are built on Si (100), such as the CMOS technology, or conventional solar cell devices. III-V semiconductors offer great perspectives given their high carrier mobility and direct band gap. However their in ...
