Two decades after the isolation of graphene, hybrid van der Waals (vdW) heterostructures, combining 2D materials with conventional semiconductors, have garnered significant attention for their potential to create novel functionalities on established platfo ...

Structural colors are bright and possess a remarkable resistance to light exposure, humidity, and temperature such that they constitute an environmentally friendly alternative to chemical pigments. Unfortunately, upscaling the production of photonic struct ...

In the realm of photoconversion of CO2 into high-value chemicals, the importance of near-infrared (NIR) light is gradually gaining recognition. Relative to ultraviolet (UV) and visible light, NIR light (700-2500 nm), accounting for ca. 50% of solar energy, ...

The epitaxial growth of complex oxides enables the production of high-quality films, yet substrate choice is restricted to certain symmetry and lattice parameters, thereby limiting the technological applications of epitaxial oxides. In comparison, the deve ...

Many of the applications of graphene rely on its uneven stiffness and high thermal conductivity, but the mechanical properties of graphene—and, in general, of all two-dimensional materials—are still not fully understood. Harmonic theory predicts a quadrati ...

We report the resonantly enhanced radiative emission from a single SiGe quantum dot (QD), which is deterministically embedded into a bichromatic photonic crystal resonator (PhCR) at the position of its largest modal electric field by a scalable method. By ...

We present the simultaneous optical and thermal analysis of a freestanding photonic semiconductor membrane made from wurtzite III-nitride material. By linking microphotoluminescence spectroscopy with Raman thermometry and other spectroscopic techniques, we ...

Thermal stability of perovskite materials is an issue impairing the long-term operation of inverted per-ovskite solar cells (PSCs). Herein, the thermal attenuation mechanism of the MAPbI3 films that deposited on two different hole transport layers (HTL), p ...

The current economic and ecological situation encourages the use of steel to push the technological limits and offer more cost-effective products. The enhancement of steel properties like wear, corrosion, and oxidation resistance is achieved by the additio ...

Micron-scale shaped 2D or 2.5D structures made of silver or copper can be produced by combining silicon photolithographic etching with metal casting by pressure infiltration. This combination of two classical pro-cesses, one from semiconductor fabrication ...

SnO2-based electron transport layers (ETLs) offer outstanding band alignment, excellent chemical and UV stability, high transmittance, high conductivity, and processability at low temperatures. However, unfortunately, the state-of-the-art SnO2 colloid prec ...

Combining angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy and density functional theory calculations, we addressed the surface electronic structure of bent SrTiO 3 (STO) (001) wafers. Using a custom-made device, we observe that the low-dimensional states that em ...
