This paper presents a solution to overcome the inherently limited bandwidth of substrate-integrated waveguide (SIW) slot antennas. It is analytically shown that by decreasing the permittivity of a dielectric loaded slot antenna, the resulting bandwidth inc ...

Antennas have historically been the most common electromagnetic (EM) technology for wireless communication systems. Antenna as hardware is entirely dependent on the EM properties of the materials used, mostly related to the permittivity and permeability. I ...

In this work, we show the coherent reconstruction of terahertz (THz) transients in thin-film lithium niobate integrated photonics circuits. Our devices modulate the intensity of a probe beam guided through a Mach-Zehnder interferometer (MZI) structure, und ...

Antenna bounds are a useful tool in assessing the feasibility or performance of an antenna design. Microstrip patch antennas are often limited by their relatively narrow bandwidth, and therefore Q-factor is an important design parameter, as it is related t ...

This paper presents an innovative approach to creating Shape Memory Alloys (SMA)-based actuators that are lightweight, compact, and capable of providing large strokes. Inspired by the Kirigami structure, an SMA actuator is designed using the Ω -pattern, wh ...

Microstrip antennas offer a broad set of advantages such as low profile, light weight, easy fabrication and low cost. As these are desirable or even critical for a broad range of applications, there has been a large interest for these antennas in the anten ...

This paper presents an investigation on the possibility of arecanut palm leaf as a biomaterial substrate for various microwave devices such as transmission lines, antenna, filter and a radio frequency identification device (RFID). The dielectric properties ...

Tunable metamaterials functionalities change in response to external stimuli. Mechanical deformation is known to be an efficient approach to tune the electromagnetic response of a deformable metamaterial. However, in the case of large mechanical deformatio ...

Systems with low mechanical dissipation are extensively used in precision measurements such as gravitational wave detection, atomic force microscopy, and quantum control of mechanical oscillators via optomechanics and electromechanics. The mechanical quali ...

The speed of change in the modern world is impressive. Within the last 50 years, many devices and technologies have significantly transformed their appearance, intrinsic characteristics and improved their performance. Computers have changed from the size o ...

Electromagnetic metasurfaces modulate a material's response to electromagnetic waves by specifically arranged elements with dimensions below the wavelength. They have opened new fields of research, including flat optics and nanophotonics on a chip. Ferroma ...

In this thesis, the electromagnetic wave propagation is studied in nonstationary-medium scenarios. The electromagnetic fields under material time-modulation are shown to conserve their momentum but not their energy. The mathematical foundations and analysi ...

A passive device comprising a hollow waveguide including first and second wall structures extending in a guiding direction, an interconnecting base extending between the wall structures and an enclosure extending between the wall structures, the enclosure ...

Many metamaterials, including metal wire grid, was invented to enhance the performance of the antenna in the last decade. A novel zero index metamaterial (ZIM), consisting of double metal layers with periodic circular perforation cells, was proposed and st ...

CubeSats are a type of small satellites (< 500 kg) that weigh several kilograms and consist of multiple Units (U) measuring 100 × 100 × 113.5 mm3. CubeSats emerged as a low-cost alternative to conventional large satellites, and have since demonstrated capa ...

Chirality is present as a trend of research in biological and chemical communities for it has a significant effect on physiological properties and pharmacological effects. Further, manipulating specific morphological chirality recently has emerged as a pro ...

This paper concerns the maximum-likelihood channel estimation for MIMO systems with orthogonal space-time block codes when the finite alphabet constraint of the signal constellation is relaxed. We study the channel coefficients estimation subspace generate ...

Acoustic resonators play a key role in the development of subwavelength-sized technologies capable of interacting with airborne audible sound, from its emission and absorption to its manipulation and processing. Specifically, artificial acoustic media made ...

In this article, a rigorous analytical methodology is introduced for designing near-zero refractive index metamaterials (NZIMs). Our proposed NZIM media is realized by three stacked layers of perforated metallic surfaces, each layer composed of a fishnet-l ...

Fundamental bounds on achievable radiation efficiency serve as the design quality gauge, facilitate the choice of the antenna type considering the available dimensions, and provide simple rules to check the feasibility of a given design. This study quantif ...
