Peer-to-peer (P2P) sharing may foster sustainability synergistically by saving resources, reducing costs and promoting satisfaction of consumer needs and social connectivity. A survey of Swiss and Swedish consumers (N = 1522) was conducted to analyze drive ...

Peer-to-peer (p2p) networks are not independent of their peers, and the network efficiency depends on peers contributing resources. Because shared resources are not free, this contribution must be rewarded. Peers across the network may share computation po ...

A plethora of real world problems consist of a number of agents that interact, learn, cooperate, coordinate, and compete with others in ever more complex environments. Examples include autonomous vehicles, robotic agents, intelligent infrastructure, IoT de ...

Sharing economy platforms such as Airbnb and Uber face a major challenge in the form of peer-to-peer discrimination based on sensitive personal attributes such as race and gender. As shown by a recent study under controlled settings, reputation systems can ...

This brief reports the analytical modeling and measurements of the inflection in the MOSFET transfer characteristics at cryogenic temperatures. Inflection is the inward bending of the drain current versus gate voltage, which reduces the current in weak and ...

Many decision problems in science, engineering, and economics are affected by uncertainty, which is typically modeled by a random variable governed by an unknown probability distribution. For many practical applications, the probability distribution is onl ...

Empirical evidence suggests that there exists substantial heterogeneity in individuals' social preferences. However, there is little theoretical basis supporting this observation and economic models often assume that all individuals are identical. Hence, t ...

We investigate the problem of multi-agent coordination under rationality constraints. Specifically, role allocation, task assignment, resource allocation, etc. Inspired by human behavior, we propose a framework (CA^3NONY) that enables fast convergence to e ...

In the inter-war period, progressive architects confronted the building of mass housing with an analogy with rational and functional workplaces. At the 2nd CIAM (Congres Internationaux d'Architecture Moderne), held in Frankfurt in 1929, this was tested aga ...

As the number of contributors to online peer-production systems grows, it becomes increasingly important to predict whether the edits that users make will eventually be beneficial to the project. Existing solutions either rely on a user reputation system o ...

Why do individuals make different decisions when confronted with similar choices? This paper investigates whether the answer lies in an evolutionary process. Our analysis builds on recent work in evolutionary game theory showing the superiority of a given ...

In data-driven inverse optimization an observer aims to learn the preferences of an agent who solves a parametric optimization problem depending on an exogenous signal. Thus, the observer seeks the agent's objective function that best explains a historical ...

In this paper we present an online database where we have collected a number of reports on extreme lightning parameters: peak current, fastest and slowest rise time, fastest and slowest time to half value, rate of change of current, flash duration, charge ...

Buoyancy driven flows such as gravity currents, present in nature and human made applications, are conveyors of particles or dissolved substances for long distances with clear implications for the environment. This transport depends on the triggering condi ...

Sharing and redistributing assets between individuals has become a noticeable part of the economy. Ownership is no longer the sole mode of consumption and consumers have the option of choosing between ownership and access-based consumption. This change in ...

This paper demonstrates and experimentally reports the highest ever performance boosting in strained silicon-nanowire homojunction TFETs with negative capacitance, provided by matched PZT capacitors. Outstanding enhancements of Ion, gm, and overdrive are a ...

Various applications require ultra-low current sensing. Some of these applications are related to ionizing radiation detection. Radiation monitoring is important in particle physics experiments, nuclear facilities, hadron therapy institutes and hospitals. ...

Evolutionary algorithms are increasingly being applied to problems that are too computationally expensive to run on a single personal computer due to costly fitness function evaluations and/or large numbers of fitness evaluations. Here, we introduce the Se ...

This thesis addresses challenges in elicitation and aggregation of crowd information for settings where an information collector, called center, has a limited knowledge about information providers, called agents. Each agent is assumed to have noisy private ...

Over the last decade, a rapid development of internet, wireless mobile telecommunication, and product identification technologies make whole product life cycle visible and controllable, which can improve several operational issues over the whole product li ...
