Permissible limits of Pb 2+ in drinking water are being reduced from 10 mu gL -1 to 5 mu gL -1 , which calls for rapid, and highly reliable detection techniques. Electrochemical sensors have garnered attention in detection of heavy metal ions in environmen ...

Living photovoltaics are microbial electrochemical devices that use whole cell–electrode interactions to convert solar energy to electricity. The bottleneck in these technologies is the limited electron transfer between the microbe and the electrode surfac ...

A new method for the rapid and economic fabrication of dual soft microelectrodes for Soft-Probe-Scanning electrochemical microscopy (Soft-Probe-SECM) and their use for the simultaneous local detection of locally generated species is presented. The process ...

The value of operando and in situ characterization methodologies for understanding electrochemical systems under operation can be inferred from the upsurge of studies that have reported mechanistic insights into electrocatalytic processes based on such mea ...

Electrons generated by Landau damping of the plasmon excitation on gold nanoparticles that can be injected into an adjacent semiconductor e.g. anatase TiO2, enhancing the light harvesting capabilities of solar energy conversion devices. The understanding o ...

In the present work, we provide evidence for visible light irradiation of the Au/TiO2 nanoparticles' surface plasmon resonance band (SPR) leading to electron injection from the Au nanoparticles to the conduction band of TiO2. The Au/TiO2 SPR band is shown ...

Electrochemical liquid cell transmission electron microscopy (TEM) is a unique technique for probing nanocatalyst behavior during operation for a range of different electrocatalytic processes, including hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), oxygen evolution r ...

The relationship between composition and plasmonic properties in noble metal nanoalloys is still largely unexplored. Yet, nanoalloys of noble metals, such as gold, with transition elements, such as iron, have unique properties and a number of potential app ...

Engineered nanomaterials (ENMs) are key drivers for the development of highly sophisticated new technologies. As all new attainments, the rapidly increasing used of ENMs raise concerns about their safety for the environment and humans. There is growing evi ...

Herein, we present the large-scale fabrication of multiplexed three-electrode sensors used in a point-of-care device platform that couples a magnetic bead-based immunoassay strategy with amperometric detection for rapid and highly sensitive analysis. The m ...

The facile preparation of structured catalysts featuring highly-dispersed non-precious metal (Fe, Ni, Co) oxide nanoparticles stabilized within a super-microporous network of activated carbon fibres (ACF) is described. The catalyst morphology was controlle ...

In this work, we have developed for the first time a method to make novel gold and platinum hybrid bimetallic nanostructures differing in shape and size. Au-Pt nanostructures were prepared by electrodeposition in two simple steps. The first step consists o ...

Au nanocorals are grown on gold screen-printed electrodes (SPEs) by using a novel and simple one-step electro-deposition process. Scanning electron microscopy was used for the morphological characterization. The devices were assembled on a three-electrode ...

Comprehensive scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM) analysis of Li4Ti5O12 (LTO) powder modified by deposited Ag nanoparticles was performed. Nanocomposite powders with Ag content of 1 wt.%, 4 wt.%, 10 wt.% were fabricated in a chemical process f ...

Poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(4-styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) was already used as a counter electrode material of dye-sensitized solar cells (DSCs) in other previous researches but its low catalytic activity has been a sticking point. Here we repor ...

Novel methods to obtain Pt nanostructured electrodes have raised particular interest due to their high performance in electrochemistry. Several nanostructuration methods proposed in the literature use costly and bulky equipment or are time-consuming due to ...

In this work we describe the realization of monometallic nanostructures by two simple electrodeposition steps. The surface of the modified electrode was characterized by scanning electron microscopy that confirms a homogeneous deposition of Pt nanospheres ...

Nanostructured biosensors with the aim of electroactive cancer-drug detection were investigated. The aim of this work is improvement of the sensitivity and limit of detection of two differently nanostructured biosensors to find out the best choice for quan ...

The ability of Pt nanostructures to induce the splitting of the I-I bond in iodine (triiodide) molecules is explored here to enhance electron transfer in the iodine/iodide redox couple. Following the dispersal of Pt nanoparticles at 2% (weight) level, char ...

With growing concerns on future energy supplies, solar energy appears as an energy source whose potential remains to be tapped at a large scale. In the last two decades, dye-sensitized solar cells (DSCs) have been considered as a competitive means to conve ...
