Realand imaginary -time quantum state evolutions are crucial in physics and chemistry for exploring quantum dynamics, preparing ground states, and computing thermodynamic observables. On near -term devices, variational quantum time evolution is a promising ...

We study the drainage of a viscous liquid film coating the outside of a solid horizontal cylinder, where gravity acts vertically. We focus on the limit of large Ohnesorge numbers Oh, where inertia is negligible compared to viscous effects. We first study t ...

We propose an adaptive quantum algorithm to prepare accurate variational time evolved wave functions. The method is based on the projected variational quantum dynamics (pVQD) algorithm, that performs a global optimization with linear scaling in the number ...

Background: Although digital mobility outcomes (DMOs) can be readily calculated from real-world data collected with wearable devices and ad-hoc algorithms, technical validation is still required. The aim of this paper is to comparatively assess and validat ...

The dataset supporting 'Fiber pumps for wearable fluidic systems', published in Science in March 2023. In this work, we present a fluidic pump in the form of a flexible and stretchable tube. These tubes - or 'fiber pumps' - can generate significant fluidic ...

Event-based sensors have the potential to optimize energy consumption at every stage in the signal processing pipeline, including data acquisition, transmission, processing, and storage. However, almost all state-of-the-art systems are still built upon th ...

As one of the three most popular sports in the Summer Olympics, competitive swimming has always been an attractive subject of study for sports scientists. The intricate nature of the swimmer's movements and the variety of techniques have led coaches to req ...

The accurate investigation of many geophysical phenomena via direct numerical simulations is computationally not possible nowadays due to the huge range of spatial and temporal scales to be resolved. Therefore advances in this field rely on the development ...

The estimation of the orientation of an object, and a human head in particular, can be defined by the Euler angles: the yaw, pitch and roll. The robust and drift-free estimation of those angles is usually achieved with the data from several sensors such as ...

A tightly focused femtosecond laser-beam in the non-ablative regime can induce a shockwave sufficiently intense to reach local pressures in the giga-Pascal range or more. In a single beam configuration, the location of the highest-pressure zone is nested w ...

Today, wearable heart rate monitors are an integral part of runners' training sessions, with heart rate data routinely used to assess effort intensity and stress on the body. As athletes translate their physical capacity into performance on the field throu ...

The characterization of open quantum systems is a central and recurring problem for the development of quantum technologies. For time-independent systems, an (often unique) steady state describes the average physics once all the transient processes have fa ...

Running mechanics are modifiable with training and adopting an economical running technique can improve running economy and hence performance. While field measurement of running economy is cumbersome, running mechanics can be assessed accurately and conven ...

We introduce a novel hybrid algorithm to simulate the real-time evolution of quantum systems using parameterized quantum circuits. The method, named "projected - Variational Quantum Dynamics" (p-VQD) realizes an iterative, global projection of the exact ti ...

Gait analysis has traditionally been carried out in a laboratory environment using expensive equipment, but, recently, reliable, affordable, and wearable sensors have enabled integration into clinical applications as well as use during activities of daily ...

The calculation of the impact pressure on obstacles in granular flows is a fundamental issue of practical relevance, e.g. for snow avalanches impacting obstacles. Previous research shows that the load on the obstacle builds up, due to the formation of forc ...

The research on ion-measuring devices has seen a rapid expansion in the last years as a consequence of the growing interest in wearable sensors for biofluids analysis and in portable devices for remote or in-line water and food quality monitoring. As a res ...

The aim of the present study was to investigate the effects of altitude and distance on uphill vertical speed (VS) and the main spatio-temporal gait parameters during an extreme mountain ultra-marathon. The VS, stride height (SH) and stride frequency (SF) ...

It is well known that helical magnetic fields undergo a so-called inverse cascade by which their correlation length grows due to the conservation of magnetic helicity in classical ideal magnetohydro-dynamics (MHD). At high energies above approximately 10 M ...

Power-Force-Velocity profile obtained during a sprint test is crucial for designing personalized training and evaluating injury risks. Estimation of instantaneous velocity is requisite for developing these profiles and the predominant method for this estim ...
