High-entropy alloys (HEAs), containing several metallic elements in near-equimolar proportions, have long been of interest for their unique mechanical properties. More recently, they have emerged as a promising platform for the development of novel heterog ...

Plasmonic photochemistry has a large potential to replace energy-intensive chemical processes with low-temperature, low-pressure light-driven chemical reactions. Plasmonic nanostructures have emerged as promising photocatalysts with exceptional and tunable ...

In rare earth nickelates, the metal-to-insulator transition observed as a function of temperature can be described using an electronic and a structural order parameter. The electronic one is linked to the electronic disproportionation observed below the tr ...

Application of a single metal or alloy is often restricted by its properties from optimal combination of performance and cost. Therefore, there is a vast need of joining dissimilar metals for various applications in biomedical, aerospace, automobile and ma ...

For decades transition-metal oxides have generated a huge interest due to the multitude of physical phenomena they exhibit. In this class of materials, the rare-earth nickelates, RNiO3, stand out for their rich phase diagram stemming from complex couplings ...

Secondary electron emission is an important process that plays a significant role in several plasma-related applications. As measuring the secondary electron yield experimentally is very challenging, quantitative modelling of this process to obtain reliabl ...

The quest to improve transparent conductors balances two key goals: increasing electrical conductivity and increasing optical transparency. To improve both simultaneously is hindered by the physical limitation that good metals with high electrical conducti ...

Computer simulations based on statistical methods have emerged as a powerful tool for studying structure-property relationships at the atomistic level. However, to provide reliable insights into materials in realistic conditions, it is essential to accurat ...

The discovery of superconductivity in doped infinite-layer nickelate thin films has brought increased attention to the behavior of the doped perovskite phase. Despite this interest, the majority of existing studies pertain to hole-doped perovskite rare-ear ...

The subject of the present work is discovery and in-depth characterization of a new class of functional materials. Tuning of the bond polarity and orbital occupation with a goal of establishing balance between localization and delocalization of electrons - ...

Alloys composed of several elements in roughly equimolar composition, often referred to as high-entropy alloys, have long been of interest for their thermodynamics and peculiar mechanical properties, and more recently for their potential application in cat ...

Detailed chemical abundances of very metal-poor (VMP; [Fe/H] < -2) stars are important for better understanding the first stars, early star formation, and chemical enrichment of galaxies. Big on-going and coming high-resolution spectroscopic surveys provid ...

Lead halide perovskites are promising semiconducting materials for solar energy harvesting. However, the presence of heavy-metal lead ions is problematic when considering potential harmful leakage into the environment from broken cells and also from a publ ...

The need for efficient and selective catalysts, capable of driving important conversions to build a more sustainable society, encourages the development of synthetic approaches towards new nanomaterials. Cu-based bimetallic nanoparticles (NPs) promise to f ...

In this work, we observe plasmon-induced hot electron extraction in a heterojunction between indium tin oxide nanocrystals and monolayer molybdenum disulfide. We study the sample with ultrafast differential transmission, exciting the sample at 1750 nm wher ...

Plasmonic effects including near-field coupling, light scattering, guided mode through surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs), Forster resonant energy transfer (FRET), and thermoplasmonics are extensively used for harnessing inexhaustible solar energy for photo ...

Available, effectively converting low-frequency vibration into available electricity, triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG) is always research hot nowadays. However, the enhancing effect of the existing methods for the output have all sorts of drawbacks, i.e. ...

Quantitative molecular detection based on surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) is still a great challenge because of the highly nonuniform distribution of the SERS hot spots and the nondeterministic spatial and spectral overlap of the analyte with th ...

We report thorough measurements of surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs) running along nearly perfect air-gold interfaces formed by atomically flat surfaces of chemically synthesized gold monocrystals. By means of amplitude-and phase-resolved near-field micros ...

Recent advances in alkaline earth (Ae) metal hydrogenation catalysis have broadened the spectrum of potential catalysts to include candidates from the main group, providing a sustainable alternative to the commonly used transition metals. Although Ae-amide ...
